  1. Love Drew Magary, he’s one of the founders of Defector which I subscribe to and am a fan of the podcast of the same name. If you’re into this style of writing/coverage check out that site it has a lot of great writers and they’re independently owned!

Remember that time a network’s broadcast of the Olympics wasn’t roundly criticized? Me neither.

I got selected for a random opinion poll done by NBC on Olympics coverage for upcoming LA games. It was so incredibly clear they do no understand their audience. “Would Ai insights into the sports history, players lives, flashing up on the screen during game play being an interesting offering” “would you be more likely to watch Olympics coverage in influencers served as a commentators and appeared on screen, so you can watch their reactions in real time” or “would you prefer if highlights were the main programming during the prime time”
Like anything for NBC to cut/edit and manipulate Olympics coverage to “turn it into a story” because they can’t just let people watch sports coverage without putting their hands on it and ruining it.

I disagree entirely with this opinion piece. I’ve enjoyed watching the whole thing on peacock and haven’t had any issues.

I just wish peacock would bring back the commercial free Tour de France feed…we can’t have anything nice!

Peacock has some issues (I really do hate the ad that always comes up when you first open a show, but that’s not unique to Peacock) but by and large it’s been fine.

I agree, and I’d add that NBC News gives away the results of major events during the national broadcast before the primetime replay. Peacock is terrible, and I wouldn’t mind waiting for the primetime feed if they hadn’t already spoiled it.

The score graphics are not made by NBC. All of the graphics are made by the IOC

Peacock has been a super easy way to watch the Olympics. I have it to watch EPL soccer and they have some quality content above and beyond sports. It’s honestly one of the better streaming experiences out there. Oh no! You have to pay for it! You don’t *have* to pay for it. You can install your antenna and watch NBC for free. The prime time has to appeal to the masses and you won’t get everything you want, but get what you pay for in 2026. Even in the days where the Olympics were 100% free to watch, they were tape delayed and picked through and chosen what you got to watch

I despise the amount of news coverage this gets. Look, I don’t give a fuck about the Olympics. But I have nothing against it and am glad others enjoy it. However, it’s not news. I don’t need to know or care to know who did what. Put that shit on ESPN or have a special program that recaps it.

I like this columnist, but this is basically clickbait bc it’s not actually describing an epic failure.

    Drew is complaining about:

    -ads on a streamer

-the sync between live broadcast being off by a few minutes

-not having enough live medal standings

These are bugs, not epic failure, lmao.

I’ve been watching on peacock and it is AT MOST mildly annoying to click in to something that’s live that ended a minute ago. It’s LIVE sports!

Having the live access has been cool and the replays have been really good too. I love that I can watch the sports I want to and see all the qualifying.

Honestly this is a great list of improvements they should make to make the experience better and more polished, but it’s such a wild headline.

  12. whenever i see sporting event on TV, the sporting event is usually happening. When I go to Olympic channels, I rarely see any sports happening.

I haven’t had issues watching on Peacock, though I get the free version thru cable, so while I hate the ads that pop up every 5 mins, at least the replays show everything. I do hate the replays are only available for a couple of days though so if you’re not able to watch quickly, you miss it.

  14. notthatgeorge on

All of the streamers are terrible with their interface, but peacock is by far the worst. It’s not that difficult to separate your sports especially by category and quit with the fluffy highlights.

I’ll never forgive them for cutting off the tribute to the 7/7 London bombings at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics for commercials.

That’s all I have to say.

I somehow got disconnected to peacock but still have nbc on Hulu ….so I’ve only been able to watch men’s and women’s curling 24/7

It is so, so bad. We have been trying to watch and get our kid into the games but the horrible, glitchy Peacock app is infuriating and the coverage itself is maddening, with fucking ad breaks between every single athlete. Our kid just loses interest and asks to play on her tablet because in an hour of “coverage” we get about fifteen actual minutes of sports and 45 minutes of ads and talking heads.

I love the Olympics and every olympiad I cringe at having to deal with fucking NBC.

  18. Besides the heavy ad breaks I’ve really enjoyed the coverage and availability on peacock.

  19. CapPuzzleheaded7010 on

You watch the replays a few hours later. Don’t spend your day looking at sports scores then you will be fine not seeing it live.

  20. ChoiceOk3636 on

Nah peacock is great and has done more for Olympics coverage in the last 4 years than anybody since its inception.

  21. Watching the Olympics is an immoral and unethical action:

IOC officials are corrupt, the athletes are doping and even blatantly publicly cheating, the events will not economically benefit the host city (handouts to the rich at the cost of services to the poor, kickbacks, bribes, etc.), vapid marketing is inserted at every opportunity, genocide is banally denied and mass murderers sane-washed, etc.

  22. ImpressiveEmergency3 on

I wish they’d go split screen with commercials during events. Randomly cutting to commercials while someone is starting a slopestyle run is a joke.

  23. Prestigious-Way-2210 on

We just watch replays and it’s fine. Avoid spoilers and it works well. Plus we can fast forward etc.
