If the CPC had an ounce of foresight after the election last year they wouldn’t be a hair away from gifting a majority to begin with.
This is like the guy trying to save his wife with a time machine, her future was already written.
There are aren’t really any high profile potential contenders who speak French; except Jason Kenney and he’s lugging a ton of baggage (handed Alberta’s conservative movement over to the lunatic fringe, is a closeted gay man who supports anti-queer policies).
Unless the CPC splits I don’t think the base will accept anyone who calls out the MAGA influence over the party.
I don’t think Jivani has the politcal clout to win a CPC leadership race.
I think these papers need to do a better job of finding pundits with actual connections within the CPC, and stop leaning so hard on Blue Grits from the Cretien/Harper era.
The best potential outcome is that they can’t maintain discipline over the seditious MAGA elements and the party splits into, effectively, Reform and PC factions again.
I’m starting to think Pierre doesn’t have the power to really admonish or hide Jivani. He had a rather meek „He speaks for himself I speak for the party“ but it’s like dude that clip is going to be played all over and hinder the party and reinforce that the CPC is not up to task if the leader can’t even wrangle its own MPs from badmouthing Canada to the US; and raise Jivani in the ranks of the base, who loves things like that.
Jivani is going to milk his Vance connection as much as he can to the benefit or detriment of the country and the party as long as it raises his profile.
And remember he doesn’t need to really care about the general public if he is trying to get leadership, he just needs to get the base to fall in love with him. This handicaps Pierre in comparison who needs to thread a needle.
Or Jivani might do something nuts and try to reform the Reform party as long as he’s leader lol.
