BC (and Canada and all the other provinces) does not have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem.
Our grandchildren and great grandchildren will hate us with a passion for the debt we are leaving them.

This is what happens when you base your entire economy on building housing and people stop building housing.
Literally the reason why every province is in deficit, not just BC. Every province put their debt burden on new buildings being built. As soon as that stopped the flow of money stopped.
Keep in mind as far as property taxes are concerned Canada and BC in general has some of the lowest in the world. The entire tax burden went from people who own land and property to those who built homes and buildings. It worked for 30 years because people were building.
Essentially the can was kicked down the road, and now the can has disintegrated.
They tried to mask this pain with mass migration and mass international students until the public and citizens in Canada revolted. If US didn’t threaten Annexation and Trump lost to Kamala. We’d probably have a CPC super majority, instead of the Liberals with Carney.

Hmm what could go wrong basing your economy on housing? Also, BC has the lowest income taxes in Canada due to the carbon tax which is now gone, so there’s a budget shortfall.

Maybe more cheap labour and more asylum claimants might help?! 🤔

NDP…always ends like this. Next step economy tanks. There is a reason they didn’t get a sniff of power for a decade after the last time. People have short memories.

Good old NDP government…great at racking up the debt
„That puts B.C. at risk of another credit downgrade, as the provincial debt-to-GDP ratio – the key metric considered by bond rating agencies – rises to more than 30 per cent. That’s roughly double the rate since the NDP came to power in 2017.“

This year’s BC govt deficit amounts to some $10,000 per family. This year’s federal deficit will be about $8000 per family.
So that’s $18,000 a year debt burden per family – this year alone – just because our elected politicians do not know how to produce a balanced budget. Next year it will be even more, in part to raise the sum needed to pay interest on this year’s deficit.

What happens with mass immigration. Stagnated salaries, cost of living balloons with housing prices being the main culprit. The resources for government services are not increased (now even decreased) and more people have to compete for the same service.

Both a spending problem and a revenue problem.
Spending because too many programs.
Revenue because nothing real is created here, and the administrative overhead for businesses to want to do stuff is too high (thanks to orgs like the CRA).
No solution without radical changes. No cultural desire to make those changes will ultimately make this country worse.
