      If people were to actually read the article, apparently the FCC is trying to enforce a rule that requires stations to give equal amount of time on television. They have already gone after NBC and are currently threatening ABC because The View had a segment with the same Senate hopeful.

      CBS said the legal team advised Colbert not to air the segment for these reasons

      In CBS‘ own statement they reveal that they wanted Colbert to bring on some sort of Republican counterpoint if they were going to allow him to air the interview. They’re framing his refusal to play ball as Stephen making the decision not to air the interview.

      The most charitable way to phrase it is that even if you want to say CBS isn’t overtly lying, they’re spinning in bad faith.

      Either way, the press this is getting has produced far greater viewership than were it to have aired in a regular fashion

      They claim it was because the other candidates weren’t being given equal time, as is required under the law. So where is Jasmine Crockett’s interview?

      Colbert has less than 3 months left so he gives no fucks. He has no reason to lie about this but a mega corporation that has already bent the knee to Trump definitely does.

      And we know trump’s FCC is garbage, so them threatening Colbert sounds accurate as hell.

      CBS did not kill it overtly.

      The Late Show chose not to attempt airing it because the FCC made it clear it would be cut if they tried.

      This is why Colbert knew to say welcome to YouTube as a part of the interview as he knew they wouldn’t be attempting to air it.

      CBS‘ threats and previous actions killed it by fiat

      Based on what I read, CBS is splitting hairs and technically correct — they didn’t kill it, they just said Colbert would have to do a similar interview with two other political candidates representing other views to provide equal air time to not run afoul of the FCC, which is onerous and prohibitive. Talk shows (TV and radio) had an equal time exemption carve out, but FCC chairman Carr seems to curiously only be interested in reevaluating it for TV talk shows that skew liberal.
