      Feb 17 (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said U.S. President Donald Trump was exerting undue pressure on him in trying to secure a resolution to the nearly four-year-old war pitting Kyiv against Moscow.

      Zelenskiy, in an interview with U.S. website Axios published on Tuesday, also said any plan requiring Ukraine to give up territory that Russia had not captured in the eastern Donbas region would be rejected by Ukrainians if put to a referendum.

      Axios quoted Zelenskiy as saying it was „not fair“ that Trump kept publicly calling on Ukraine, not Russia, to make concessions in negotiating terms for a peace plan.

      „I hope it is just his tactics and not the decision,“ Axios quoted Zelenskiy as saying in the interview, conducted by phone as Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. negotiators held talks in Geneva.
      Trump has twice in recent days suggested it was up to Ukraine and Zelenskiy to take steps to ensure the talks proved successful.

      „Ukraine better come to the table fast. That’s all I’m telling you,“ Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday.

      Zelenskiy, Axios said, suggested it might be easier to put pressure on Ukraine than on Russia.

      He thanked Trump again for his peacemaking efforts and told Axios that his conversations with the top U.S. negotiators, envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, did not involve the same kind of pressure.
      „We respect each other,“ Axios quoted him as saying. He added that he was „not such a person“ to fold easily under pressure.

      Zelenskiy told Axios that acceding to Russia’s demand to take over the entire Donbas region — it now holds about 88 % of it — would be unacceptable to Ukrainian voters if they were asked to consider it in a referendum.

      „Emotionally, people will never forgive this. Never. They will not forgive… me, they will not forgive (the United States),“ Zelenskiy said, adding that Ukrainians „can’t understand why“ they would be asked to give up additional land.
      „This is part of our country, all these citizens, the flag, the land.“

      He called again for positions to be frozen at the current front lines of the conflict.
      „I think that if we will put in the document … that we stay where we stay on the contact line, I think that people will support this (in a) referendum,“ Axios quoted him as saying.

      Things are not looking good at home for the Cheeto with the Trump-Epstein Files dribbling out so he’s doing his usual rounds of deflection, last week Canada bridge and this week Ukraine it seems; even went as far as to send his lap dog to try to cozy up to European Union yesterday.
      Wait him out, his fate will come and the world will rejoice and self correct -perhaps without the USA if they continue to follow their path..

      I can’t process how anyone no matter what side of the aisle you support, can find merit in any of the geopolitical nonsensical maneuvers djt continues to motion towards. unless the goal is the aforementioned dismantling and destabilization – none of this makes any sense whatsoever

      Total BS. Ukraine shouldn’t give up any land at all. Trump is pressuring the wrong side. Russia needs to pay for invading, not Ukraine for defending itself. Glad Zelensky is holding strong.

      Trump is a lazy corrupt Putin himself and was never any better or more honest than the entire rogue’s gallery of historical dictator scum. The US isn’t really helping Ukraine very much anymore. Why are they even involved?

      Trump doesn’t want peace either. What kind of dictator coveting Canada and Greenland wants Europe free of war? Fugeddaboutit. Trump knows these terms are impossible for Ukraine, he wants to torpedo the peace while blaming it all on Ukraine. He literally does this every 90 days perhaps when a crypto bribe from Russia clears. That way he can milk them forever too. Putin and Trump are the aliens in Independence Day. “No peace”.

      The more this goes on, the more I think Putin has promised Trump enough Russian soldiers in ICE uniforms to cover every polling station for the midterms, in return for Trump forcing Ukraine to capitulate and cede significant territory to Russia.

      When I first thought of this, I figured it was just tinfoil hat thinking. But after watching this nonsense go on for a year, I don’t think Trump would be putting this type of pressure and work in for a distraction, or a positive story heading to the polls, or a Russian trade deal, or whatever other marginal gain that would come out of this nonsense otherwise. I honestly think Russian bodies in ICE uniforms would be the only thing that explains it.
