Tradesman here,
Now if only they can follow through with this momentum and could educate, train & employ individuals on proper routine maintenance.
Imagine a life where you are not 100% reliant on others to provide for you.
Growth.
So, they are finally deciding to be adults and will work on looking after and supporting themselves.
This is great news!
„Self-governing people don’t have federal government do literally everything for them“

I thought the Government gives them transfer payments, so that they can look after their towns/villages?
Good?
I mean, I live in Toronto and also bought a backup generator. It’s probably a good idea for them.
Well, they didn’t really “buy” them themselves them if they used federal grants…
„After chief complains government wont give free money all of a sudden the money appears“
What a surprise.
Take 2 because somebody reported me for „inciting hate“ and now I have a Reddit account warning.
I lived/worked on a reserve in Northern Saskatchewan for almost 3 years. The infrastructure isn’t maintained by the local community.
They received a massive grant to rebuild/expand their water treatment plant. They only hired individuals from within the community. Things quickly fell into disrepair as employees wouldn’t do the proper daily/weekly/monthly maintenance.
There were countless boil waiter advisories as well as several complete outages. There was one stretch where we didn’t have water for 15 days.
Also the average time for a new home to be deemed condemned was less than 4 years from when the first family moved in.
With the billions of dollars the bands get and you still need to blame me cause basicly im giving you money
If you want to be separate and your own nation, then why are they relying on Canada and its tax payers? That’s ridiculous.
Every First Nation has received more than enough money over the decades that any complaint about Canada not helping is disingenuous.
Just send them more money and problem solved. Not!
Right. As a non First Nation I agree that govt and utilities have failed me at times – so yeah, buy a generator
Progress! 150 years in the making.
They failed me too, lots of times, I paid for my own generator and everything else.
Yea, that was the point of the billions given to FN over decades ffs
They get more money than the Canadian arm forces annually, wtf are they crying about now.
These headlines need to stop. They are given a shocking amount of money. The money they used is from taxpayers. The handout class is a cancer on our society that needs to stop. Nothing is ever good enough.
The wildfires really wrecked a lot of infrastructure everywhere. Sounds like a rebuild rather than repairs.
„The line to the community required replacement of 253 structures, amid logistical challenges including limited rail freight and very challenging terrain often requiring helicopters and boring holes in rock to set poles,” he added.“
Where are the billions going that we give to them?
hmm maybe now that they paid for it they will actually take care of it… oh who am I kidding. The CBC will have headline in 6-12 months about how the government and the „settlers“ have betrayed the natives again. The government will throw another couple million of taxpayer funds at the issue and the cycle beings again.
I wish my municipality would do the same. And for the same reason
So does a lot of the country. Big deal 🙄
Yeah but who paid?
If you’ve ever lived outside major urban areas for any length of time, power outages are just a fact of life.
Expecting city services in a rural setting is unrealistic. Getting a generator is what most people do.
Some days I dream of what it would feel like to not pay taxes. I feel like I could get ahead so much further with what I earn already. I’ve run out of sympathy and i’m tired of paying so many taxes.
Where did that 32bn from last year go?
I mean, in the article the power outage does seem egregious – 128 days. That being said my In-Laws live just outside of Ottawa and experienced a 3 week outage a couple years ago because of an ice storm. They bought their own backup generator, no one paid for it for them.
If you live rurally, backup generators are kind of a necessity.
I live in Quebec. Over the 2022 Christmas holidays, we had a SIX day outage. That’s DAYS, not hours. We usually get one multiple day outage per year and several more lasting several hours. Needless to say we now have a backup generator. And we have a wood stove for heat.
I’m not in some remote backwater either. One hour from Montreal, 10 minutes from a town of 15000, and 30 minutes from a town of 70000. In the Eastern Townships.
I also have backup generators and batteries for when the government run utilities frequently fail me.
>“We had to move forward with our own solution for energy security and emergency response,”
If I lived in a place that burnt down with no fire insurance I’d be fucked too.
Don’t they get billions for these type of things ?
How did they pay for the backup generators😂😂
Take the 30billion we gave you last year, that should cover it
Surprised they didnt go with Solar. Better for the environment.
„private financing for the $8-million purchase of generators“, wonder who risked that, a bank?
And yet there are are reserves in Sask building multi million dollar powerplants and selling the energy back. Sounds like fraud dressed up as victimhood.
