Assuming he will be arrested upon return to appear before the courts in relation to his previous drug charges?

    2. Hipster_doofus11 on

      >Niall O’Dowd with The Irish Times said that, even before the Trump immigration crackdown, Culleton very likely would not have obtained his green card because he had overstayed his 90-day visa.

      >“What is happening in practice is that the 90-day overstay visa cases – which is the one most undocumented Irish entered under – are being decided against the immigrant,“ O’Dowd said.

So he broke the visa rules and is now suffering the consequences? Is there more to this story that I’m missing?

If he can hold out until Paddy’s day Micheal will fight his case….because remember ‘the undocumented’ are different to illegal immigrants somehow.

What ICE are doing for the most part is absolutely horrible but anything I hear about this fella does not really inspire much sympathy to be honest.

    5. WeDoingThisAgainRWe on

I presume this is the guy who has a bench warrant out for him in Ireland. Skipped the country to avoid trial and went to the US. Lied on his visa app at the time about the arrest for drugs, which would have been a decline in the application. Then stayed about 17 years beyond the temporary visa he had fraudulently obtained.

But with a rage bait title that presents a very different picture.

Don’t journalists do background checks on people? What kind of journalistic due diligence did Kieran Cuddihy do before bringing this guy on RTÉ radio with his sob story? Takes literally one google search to find this guys old drug charges and comments days ago on here had people saying he abandoned his twin children. Our national broadcaster acting like a tabloid, wanting their concentration camp headline against trump.

    7. He should be deported, the circumstances he’s held in arent proper but thats not a reason to ignore a separate law.

I’d hold my hands up and say I previously supported this guy. While I do think ICE are horrendous. This Seamus fella is no saint. It’s a reminder to Trust but Verify. Abandoning his kids when they were babies, the drug charges, the marrying a woman for a Greencard. He’s not a very nice person.

    9. I said in another thread that’s since been deleted that every article released just gets worse and worse for this guy.

Fled a drugs charge in Ireland, Overstayed his visa for 20 years, only started trying to get legal about 5 minutes ago, daughters in Ireland that want nothing to do with him

If it turned out he was on Epstein Island i wouldnt be surprised at this stage.

Ice sucks and that’s a fact, but lad had literally twenty years to sort his shit out 😐

I’m finding it difficult to have any sympathy for this particular guy. He fucked around and albeit the long game, the found out is here.

      >”The draconian new laws seem to be part of the Trump administration’s policy to make conditions so arduous that inmates will pledge never to come back to the US.

The _draconian_ new law… checks notes… of enforcing immigration laws 🤡

    13. Dismal_Flight_686 on

You’d think he would have quietly continued to try sort it over there or just get on the plane

Going on the radio with his sob story was nuts when he had all those skeletons hidden away

Everyone knows everyone here – he fucked himself the second he made that decision

And now his whole family gets to be both worried and mortified.

Wonder if this is all news to the new wife ?

      It’s all a disaster really.

What’s going on in the states if mental behaviour at the moment but in this case – he did provide false information on his visa initially
      And that’s what hanging him

Rough lesson to learn but it is what it is

    14. Substantial_Rope8225 on

And there’s thousands more like him who are hiding in the shadows, the hierarchy of immigrants is falling over there, being Irish doesn’t give you a pass anymore

    15. Is this the same guy rte has been harping on about the past few weeks? or is it a different guy?

    16. This lad hoping for sob story sympathy points is very funny to me. I wont say I’m happy to have him back, but probably right that his 20 year piss take is at an end.

Mr. Culleton seems like a bit of a prick tbh, with the drug changes and the twin daughters he legged it on..

    19. Salt_Caterpillar6125 on

Deadbeat dad has to face the music now. Those photos of him and the wife over there told enough of a story even before the rest came out.

    20. AccomplishedRun6885 on

He was so quick to bring up the race of the Spanish speakers in the detention centre. I found that bizarre

    21. I wonder does his missus in the states know about the 2 kids back home as well as his other misdeeds. At least we got out of him for a couple of decades, but I’m sure he’ll try make up for it.

    22. This guy really pisses me off.

Not his overstay/warrant situation (which I can understand as something which got out of hand as a young lad), but him looking for sympathy from people, when he didn’t even pay child support. That’s awful behavior.

I now live in the US, I did everything by the book, waited years for timelines to align, and dickheads like him ruin the reputation of Irish people abroad.

    23. Dramatic-Spirit-4809 on

Just an observation about this from orbit….

Yea he’s a ropey dude and yea he’s not a good example of a bad deportation attempt….

But you gotta love the Irish, there’s always a fever pitch carnivorous streak to a good aul fuckin mass beat down when we cast our judgment.

People blame the church (rightly) for many if our societal ills of past but by christ there was a load of these types above shaking thier heads at pregnant unwed mothers with arms crossed enabling it. It’s inherently us.

      As you were…

    24. I appreciate he’s done wrong on his past, and he should have to face up to what he has done. But celebrating that he’s been detained by Ice is not right. I can’t even imagine what all these poor people in the detention centers are going through daily. I lived in the USA for a number of years and I was one of the few lucky people to have had citizenship. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. My dad has been absent my entire life and lives in NYC, we have limited contact as he is an absolute dose of shite, and has done wrong himself. But I check in every few weeks just to make sure he is ok and hasn’t been detained.

    25. tedstriker2015 on

No matter what you’ve done you should still have rights to fair process and to be treated like a human. In modern Ireland this lad is 97 convictions away from a prison sentence. What he did to his kids is the real crime.

    26. United_Plum_2209 on

There is no upside to the trump regime- we have to listen to his shite on the news every night and now he’s sending back cunts like this

    27. We need our media to be a bit more honest about Irish migrants to the US in general. But this guy sounds like a deadbeat scumbag – no sympathy

    28. YearnestShackleton on

How did this guy cultivate so much media awareness? He has TDs in the Dail talking about him and national media running stories about him daily. A whole lot of exposure for a scumbag nobody who fled the country to avoid a drugs charge (leaving behind 2 young daughters), fraudulently entered the US, then lived as an illegal for 17 years.

Is he related to someone powerful or something?
