    1. How about Labour just don’t ban them at all like the rest of the civilised world.

    2. It’s good that a petition exists and I would encourage you all to sign it

I’ve gotten the impression the government cares more about the lobbyists than the people so I doubt they’ll backtrack. That being said, anything that scrutinises what they are doing is good, the more unpalatable it’s made the more likely there is to be progress

    3. It’s not happening. The press release just said they are exploring young people’s access to VPNs but they haven’t had the consultation and it’s not like a ban is even possible. More than likely will be something connected to the age of the AppStore account.

Tabloid news have put the word Ban on it to terrify everyone that they will never be able to wank again lol. None of the press releases mention the word ban – if VPNs could be banned don’t you think Russia or China would have done it?

Kier Stalin went to China to ask them for tips and tricks on how to crack down more on our online freedoms. Such a joke about what we are becoming

Peter Thiel wants the data and the money and they will hand it to him.

That’s the only reason this is being done.

Honestly who the fuck does this government think they are? First they humiliated themselves by trying to strong arm Apple into breaking its encryption, then requiring people to face ID to look at porn, now trying to ban VPNs.

Crime on the streets must be super low for the government to be so fixated on this.

If you have a valid credit card, then you can easily fake your identity anyway. Just allow people to use VPNs ffs!

    8. Infrastructure falling apart. Mental health epidemic. Housing crisis. Russia invading Europe …

Let’s waste our time and energy stopping people accessing porn sites.

    9. This is like banning multiplication or something in the name of protecting kids.

You can’t just ban or age restrict a methodology or concept. It goes far beyond people watching porn or torrenting movies.

Just make parents do their job instead of punishing everyone ffs. Fine parents or something that let their kids run wild online without parental controls

      Can you see that… in the distance… on the horizon… it’s… it’s… it’s another u turn 🙂

    12. The crazy thing with this is, just like the OSA, it will push more people down the unregulated/extreme route, and the ban on VPNs (or rather, age verification) will just force more people down the path of the DarkWeb.

Also – with a bit of technical knowhow, anyone can buy a £5 VPS (Virtual Private Server) and have a private VPN, which would be totally unregulated and unrestricted, so once again, this solves nothing, it just makes things more difficult for legitimate users.

    13. Presumably the ban isn’t about the age group being banned but more about you having to prove you’re not in the banned age group? I.e. digital ID attached to a VPN account.

    14. The Government cannot ban VPN protocols; they are needed for key infrastructure.

What they can do, is ban VPN providers from selling in the UK, like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

That way, you either cough up ID to these companies to prove you’re of age or you don’t get access to a VPN unless it’s from your workplace.

What children are protected by banning vpns? The ones savvy enough to get one will be very easily able to get one anyway.

Unless they want to ban vpn protocols all together which will be hilarious.

    16. Do wonder how they’ll stop you manually configuring a vpn? yes its slightly more complicated than clicking a button in an app but I’m sure vpn companies will put simple instructions or are the totalitarians going to lock down settings so you need a government agent to modify them?

    17. Honest question from a Non-UK outsider, this topic / sub-reddit has popped in my feed for the last couple days. But I’m assuming there must be some kind of carve-out here for companies / businesses? I could see a potential ban on Vpns problematic there, no?

    18. VPN’s are standard for companies that have home workers – they are built into the remote connections. It’s fucking stupid to think that VPN’s are solely used for viewing adult material

    19. I don’t care if they (under 16s) get banned I just don’t want it to be enforced by me having to give up any personal data.

Ban children from the internet altogether for all I care just keep me out of it.
