What’s a ‚police union‘? Last time I checked, we weren’t allowed to unionise.

‚Scottish Police Federation Chief‘ doesn’t have the same drama, I suppose.

    2. Pull the trigger and expect to be stabbed in the back by the worthless cowards at the IOPC/Ombudsman/PIRC, thrown under the bus by spineless cretins of senior managers and have your personal details published and hit pieces run on you by shitbag journos and degenerate activists who would rather see society burn than 1 criminal be justifiably shot.

I’m a serving police officer and I, along with all of my colleagues believe firmly that the time has long since come for us to be routinely armed but would refuse to be until there are actual guarantees in place to prevent the usual witch hunts and feral behaviour from the press that accompany any sort of police shooting.

They’ve got snipers trained on my cutlery drawer… just waiting for me to butter some toast

    4. When a certain ethnic group were running around Hanley/Stoke carrying actual swords and chasing people through the streets, the police asked them nicely to „please put your weapons back in the building“. Where was this tough-guy attitude then?

      The idiot lacks nuance.

We have American police coming here to learn how we de-escalate knives with riot shields and a fast response. Shooting is what we move to last unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

Remember the old joke about how heaven and hells jobs are settled? The Police Force in Heaven is ideally British, and not because we shoot first.

This sounds fair. In practise any police officer with firearm is probably worried about consequences and private / public / legal investigation if they shoot anyone. When they do they job they get in trouble even more compared to not doing it

Is Gene Hunt the chief constable now?

„Come out, you’re surrounded by armed bastards!“ Should be a preset on all police loudhailers

Can’t help but agree with this.

There were teenagers running around Princes St wearing balaclavas with Machetes the other week. One of the busiest streets in Scotland.

Maybe if they knew actions had consequences they’d think twice?

We also can’t keep sending officers to situations like this with fucking batons. Police Scotland don’t even arm all cops with Tasers.

Everyone in this thread is talking about American police without looking to Europe. They’re the odd ones out in that they’re trigger happy, in the same way we’re the odd ones out not arming our police.

    9. Can’t read the article due to pay wall. How do police defend against a knife attack? In America if you are a lucky attacker you’ll be tazed, though it depends on the situation. If you pull out a knife and rush police you’ll be shot. If you stand there ranting with a knife you will be tazed.

Do cops have riot gear in their trunks? How do you stop a knife attack without getting stabbed? In some ways I would rather go up against a gun. You can’t take cover when you’re being attacked with a knife and the speed of the stabs are faster due to recoil making follow up shots difficult.

    10. Of course…

      * Police have to contain the suspect at the scene not run away as long as they have adequate tools at their disposal (tasers, guns) otherwise it could turn into a mass stabbing incident

      * Someone rushing you with a knife/blade can move very quickly & unpredictably, it’s possible to hurt someone at range with a knife etc.

      * Totally agree if you carry around a knife and when caught you act like the big „I am“, expect to be tasered, shot to neutralise the threat. **You** decided to carry the knife/blade.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous. If there is no immediate threat to police or civilians just holding a knife should not confer an instant death sentence. Yes that includes if a crime is being commited.

People agreeing with this, read what is being said. He’s saying just holding a knife should get you shot even if there is no risk of immediate death or injury.

Not even American cops are this bad.

Based on these comments, the public has the police they deserve, frankly.

    13. WodenTheWanderer on

Good, fucking give these little cunts a deterrent, because obviously the prisons and sentences aren’t working.

A good and acceptable and proportionate action.

We don’t need to keep hoods in jail for 5years and pay for their holiday.

    15. Puzzled-Job9556 on

Welcomed news. The police should be feared and brutal in their delivery.

    16. Left-Resource636 on

By the armed police that we have issues recruiting and are scrutinised to fuck if they ever even look at their gun(which is a major cause of recruitment issues)???

Not to mention less lethal weapons are quite appropriate in a lot of situations to disarm someone with a knife. There are even compilation videos showing our police doing this alongside footage of US police massively escalating the situation instead.
