China hat rund um die Taklamakan-Wüste so viele Bäume gepflanzt, dass es diese „biologische Leere“ in eine Kohlenstoffsenke verwandelt hat

I mean, good on them, but overall this program is about stopping the ecological destruction that prior decisions by China caused on that region through desertification.

Again, this is good, just it is good about fixing problems humanity inflicted on an area and through knock on effects on themselves decades prior.

By the article itself the effect could be four times more forest if it hadn’t been destroyed back then.

Regardless of how you feel about China (and the fact they caused much of the issues with this desertification to begin with), this is pretty cool. And it does give me hope that maybe we can start seeing more of these type of projects that reverse ecological damage in the future. Not from the US obviously, but China doing this kind of thing is pretty significant.

Very cool!! Very exciting! I’ve been following replanting projects all around the world and it makes me so happy to see them succeed.

    4. China building better batteries for expanded solar, and planting trees. The US is encouraging coal burning and gutted the EPA.

I am a 2003 baby. I am so amazed at how far China has come in my lifetime 🤯

    6. IIRC there was a report lately that China had planted so many trees that this had changed the rainfall pattern across the country.

I remember Republicans behind closed doors argued that its not that they didn’t believe in climate science. Its that it would be impossible to compete with a China who won’t take up climate issues. Zoom to 10 years later and China is kicking our asses with environmental policy, developing renewable energy, etc. The US should be ashamed

So I am waiting for the bbc/france 24 / dw English language reports with the „but, at what cost?“ angle, and of course, bbc’s specialized using the „breaking bad“ yellow tinge hell filter on the stock footage of the desert: oh look, they r destroying the natural desert eco system!

    9. This is why Climate Change is some bull shit.

Not because the climate isn’t changing, but they are justifying shutting down jobs, hurting the economy, and stealing peoples money to pay for an agenda bc things like this, we’re supposedly not possible. Humans have been around w writing for about 10k years… the earth, few hundred million years… we don’t know shit about the complexities of the planet, and claiming that we do doesn’t make it ok to steal from people..

-desertification was supposedly irreversible and we couldn’t really

-methane and cow farts and starch cans were dooming the ozone

-The CO2 in the atmosphere is causing global warming – and once it’s there we can’t do anything… but apparently… it
