Sad as it sounds, I can’t blame Europe for no longer trusting us all because millions of our fellow countrymen thought reelecting Trump was such a good idea

It doesn’t matter if hes gone in 3 years, lazy americans will just let the reds win again. Its the cycle. „oh we voted a Dem in we’re safe now“

Yeah but if the Democrats regain control how many Republicans will they put into positions of power or reach across the aisle to with the idea of „moving on to heal the nation“. That’s what I’d worry about since it always fucking happens.

  4. > Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proved to be one of the biggest attractions at the conference beyond Rubio. She drew a line between growing wealth inequality – a focus of her domestic policy agenda since she won an upset victory in Congress in 2018 – and the rise of authoritarian governments.

    > „It is of the utmost urgency that we get our economic houses in order and deliver material gains for the working class,“ she said. „Otherwise, we will fall into a more isolated world governed by authoritarians who also do not deliver to working people.“

This creeping feudalism is not sustainable.

Europe won’t be and shouldn’t be reassured.

Unless and until better safeguards are put in place to prevent Congress from ceding it’s authority, the judicial branch, including SCOTUS, is prevented from being political and something is done to require agreements entered during a previous administration being honored though it’s term, there is zero reason to trust the US.

  6. Hopefully sooner but at most 3 years. One major issue is that there are so am y republican extremist in congress now. Even when the felon is gone, it doesn’t mean everything will suddenly be okay.

Trump is one person – he’s being enabled by the entire Republican controlled House, Senate and Supreme Court

All the major checks and balances that operated in good faith went to shit the moment this demented old pedophile got behind the wheel

But it’s not just Trump – he’s the face of the cancerous MAGA movement. All Republicans are complicit in destroying our world standing

I’m praying that it’s closer to “by August” but I doubt that we’re that lucky.

I will be be genuinely shocked if he makes it to three

He’s physically and mentally deteriorating more every day it seems

A diet of McDonalds, candy and Diet Coke has not done him much good 😐

The next president is going to have to do a 4 year apology tour around the world and then conservatives are going to lose their ever loving shit about how suddenly America is „weak“ and „not respected“ for apologizing for anything, like they didn’t take a fascist rapist with the mental capacity of a goldfish balls deep for several years

Americans reelected trump, our institutions failed utterly to hold him accountable both under biden, and now under his second term, republicans are wholeheartedly supporting him which means even when he is gone half our political system are people just like him. Do not trust america ever again europe.

UK. All the people that voted for him won’t be gone. The insults he threw at our armed forces won’t be gone. That repellent creep Vance’s behaviour towards Zelensky won’t be gone. The relationship is not going to revert back to pre Trump even if he’s gone tomorrow.

  13. The question though is what comes after Trump. Do we really think it’s all going to magically go back to the pre-Trump normal once he’s gone?

  14. GriffinFlash on

Problem isn’t that he’ll be gone, it’s the fact that he is part of an illness that’s still around and can always come back within 4 years. It’s too risky to deal with the US if it all just comes back.

  15. Benjammin172 on

It’s irrelevant really. Republicans won’t change, the country will always keep enough republicans in power to stifle any progressive policies, and the Supreme Court will be red and brazenly corrupt indefinitely. And all of that assumes that democrats won’t do everything in their power to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity. Europe will do what they need to in order to reduce dependence on our shit show, and the rest of the world will follow suit.

  16. The entire political party, the 70 million voters, and most importantly the dozens/hundreds of billionaires that enabled him, will not be gone in three years.

  17. flux_of_grey_kittens on

How about you reassure us Americans and win the house and senate and remove his ass *next year*?

  18. Ok-disaster2022 on

Trump is just the symptom. The real threat are the American billionaires. Frankly Europe needs protect their people from the billionaires

  19. Trump may be gone in 3 years; but the fuckers who voted for him and his enablers won’t be. It’ll take a lot more than Trump being gone for the USA to be trusted again.

  20. TheBatemanFlex on

Nothing has changed in our institutions to stop these things from happening again sooo

  21. DancingWithAWhiteHat on

That’s not enough and you guys know it. We have an entire political party that is the enemy of Europe.

  22. Travelerdude on

Trump may be gone although he should be imprisoned immediately for his crimes, but the Republican machine enabling him will still be around and whose to say they won’t be back with more of this shit in 4 years assuming a democrat wins the presidency before then.

  23. saiyanscaris on

and yet what if we get someone worse than trump. thats what there thinking about.

  24. ComicRelief64 on

„And after that and our four years of performative scolding, calls for bipartisanship, and going along with stalling tactics someone like him will be back in.“

  25. WhichEmailWasIt on

It doesn’t really matter. Everyone gave us a pass the first time and we didn’t learn from the experience and clean house. If we’d handled the traitors the way SK handled their leader’s attempted coup I think most nations would’ve looked the other way.

  26. The US has demonstrated that their democracy is broken and that their government is not bound by the rule of law; domestic or international. That doesn’t change overnight once Trump is out of the picture.

  27. Trump going away at the end of his term does nothing to solve the issues that have America’s allies so concerned.

The issue isn’t Trump. It’s that somebody like Trump can get elected. And the assortment of losers, crooks, and bastards around him can do so much damage, in such a short amount of time, with so little effective push-back, and zero punishment whatsoever.

Trump being gone is not a magical fix to the underlying issues, just an opportunity to *begin* fixing them.
