Hey look it’s the areas of the US that Reddit makes fun of the most.

I wish more Americans from the north / west would spend some time down here when throwing out comments about being very racist in the south. Most people you encounter here are going to be pretty chill.

Anecdotal, but I’ve gotten way worse racism from black people in Chicago and Baltimore than I ever had growing up here.

We have cities in South Carolina that are 75%+ black like Orangeburg, Marion. It’s a huge culture shock to people visiting from states like Washington because they’ve never been to a place where the kids, the police chief, the mayor, the business owners are all black.

I’ll always find it fascinating that the reason the area highlighted in Alabama is where it is is because of a geological formation formed in the Cretaceous period that made that region have super fertile soil that was perfect for growing things like cotton. It’s wild that something that occurred in the earth 65 million years ago would have societal and political and cultural ramifications to this day.

I love geology so much. Really interesting how it can affect certain human geographic matters so much.

Interesting how there are small enclave counties in Virginia and a handful correlate with this particular map.
