Since 2023, RuZZia and the regime in Niger have gotten really close…so Niger has turned into a RuZZian pupet state now🤔

  3. One’s nuclear power and second improvished country in africa. Let’s see who wins.

  4. Sounds like internal politics? Common enemy to justify all internal actions?

Is Niger moving their fleet of ships towards France? I know Niger’s really known for their air force, but if they storm Omaha beach it’s over.

  6. Is this going to be one of those rare historical situations where a country has their declaration of war rejected?

  7. Setting aside all the other reasons Niger isn’t actually going to war with France: doing so would activate Article V of NATO. Niger wouldn’t win a war with France, but it would lose a war with NATO even faster.

The European powers want stability in the Sahel to mitigate against a greater refugee crisis. They also need access to the uranium deposits which power most of French nuclear energy. I don’t see how France supporting terrorists achieves this goal. Sounds like propaganda to me.

  9. Niger is a military Junta dictatorship. They kicked out France/America/UN and replaced them with Russia to protect them from ISIS. They keep making claims that France has to be helping ISIS because ISIS couldn’t be doing this well on their own. This is just propaganda to make people hate France and distract from the country failing to protect it’s people.

The Republic of Niger is losing badly to an insurgency despite help from Russian Mercenaries. This is simply their way of inventing a fake war, enemy for propaganda purposes. It’s really up to the people to not fall for it.

I hope they get the joke and overthrow these clowns.

  11. For those just reading the title, the Sahel in West Africa is an utter mess and has been for some time. Jihadists control huge areas of Burkina Faso and Mali, and substantial areas of western Niger. The jihadists are mostly either ISIS or JNIM – a brutal Al-Qaeda affiliate that wants to build an extremist Salafist emirate in West Africa but is less of a doomsday cult.

France used to fight the jihadists alongside the governments of these countries, while having a somewhat extractive economic relationship with them. Years of fighting and counter-insurgency operations kept the jihadists in check but never defeated them, and the militaries got increasingly frustrated that France and their weak civilian governments were ‚holding them back‘.

All three countries experienced Russia-backed coups that handed all control to the army. They kicked France out, brought Wagner troops in, and have displayed far more brutality towards civilians in ‚jihadist support zones‘ now they don’t have to worry about western ideas like ‚human rights‘.

Unsurprisingly the situation has largely deteriorated further. The (renamed) Wagner troops aren’t as competent as France was, and the countries aren’t magically better at warfare with the generals in complete control. The jihadists have begun to raid into other countries like Benin, and there are legitimate fears that Burkina Faso and/or Mali might end up fracturing as a state or even losing to the jihadists entirely. Fuel going to Mali’s capital was blockaded by jihadists recently, and Burkina Faso keeps the lights on because they can export gold via aeroplane despite the capital being surrounded by a ring of rural areas with heavy jihadist presence.

So these governments are resorting to conspiracy theories that France is behind it and using increasingly desperate propaganda to recruit soldiers and encourage people in rural areas to fight back against jihadists (who in JNIM’s case, often try to win local leaders over by offering a competing ultra-conservative Islamist government). They’re not actually declaring or planning war against France.

  12. I’m French and I must say that this a monday problem, no point in taking care about this during the week-end
