Der 14. Februar ist Valentinstag. Traditionell ist diese Veranstaltung in Japan eine Gelegenheit für Frauen, Männern Schokolade zu schenken und ihnen ihre Liebe zu gestehen. Eine Umfrage des Partnervermittlungsdienstleisters IBJ (Shinjuku Ward, Tokio) ergab jedoch, dass 90 % der Frauen dies begrüßen "umgekehrter Valentinstag," wo Männer Frauen am Valentinstag Geschenke machen.

    Men giving present to women is a „reverse“? Not quite sure how the „tradition“ of women giving men chocolate came to be in Japan and some Asian countries.

    I, also, see an elderly woman standing up in a train while her husband is seated.

    Norms here seems to be different from US and European countries.

  2. I heard that the Japan Candy Industry Cooperative created a commercial holiday called „**White Day**“ on March 14 to boost sales and handle inventory. It is also known that Korea and several other Asian countries celebrate White Day. (North Korea does not have White Day because holidays other than their own are banned.)

    “Reverse” Valentine’s Day? If anything, Japanese Valentine’s Day is the reversed one. Japanese women want normal Valentine’s Day.
