Without the strongest country in Europe – good luck with that. Might meet opposition from your nationalist members.

Says this literally as he also says he won’t comment on the Iran situation. Absolutely epic geopolitical power that doesn’t have any opinions on shit going down in its own backyard.

  3. Maybe start modest by setting up an EU multinational rapid reaction brigade. Also a naval and air component. Use NATO models and interoperability standards.

Having even a small force controlled by a different political process to NATO is infinitely more than none at all.

  4. France is a country that is likely to be ruled by a far-right president in about a year

    Lol

    Good luck

Havent been relevant since the Suez canal crisis where the ussr and usa told them to fuck off to the kids‘ table and then spent the next 40+ years depending on the USA.

  6. Good luck convincing everyone to keep buying Luis Vuitton trash and other ‘luxury’ European brands made in Asia. Europe outsourced their quality standards long ago. That was the one thing they had as an economic differentiator and advantage. Not sure where they expect to outcompete the rest of the world at this point. They squandered centuries of colonialism.

IF, and that’s a humongous IF, Europe does manage to become a geopolitical power, it would go down as US’s worst miscalculation in decades. However, the probability of Europe coming together and allocating the massive capital needed…. Slim to none. Or to be realistic, none to none.

  8. Don’t worry France, Poland is leading the way. Just follow their lead for once and it’ll all be good.

  9. Hard to be a geopolitical power when the EU needs consensus from so many disparate nations to take action.

Hard to be taken seriously when you block the UK from European defence schemes to eke out financial advantages.

Easy to ignore when you make this speech every other week.

Macron is an opportunist who has been looking for a way to seize power within the EU for years, even if he is right

The time for talking about these things is already up, it was up years ago. We’ve been talking about these same things for years. Now that the wolf is at the door and ready to blow our houses down, we should have sufficiently built up our military power to deal with it.

I can see the gears turning in my own country, but Europe is a blindspot. I hope they’ve got something in the pipeline to back all this talk up.
