I’d take Jacobin more seriously if they weren’t avowed tankies. You can be socialist without stanning authoritarianism.

The NDP absolutely should embrace socialism. Keynesian social democracy is what the progressive side of the liberal party represents.
If Canadians want an alternative to the two major parties, then there needs to be an alternative ideology to choose.

I just don’t see him being the leader the NDP need right now, but I’ll have to finish reading the interview.
The idea of someone trying to take back the term „socialist“ when you have Poilievre shitposting about it on twitter all the time does interest me though.

I sometimes vote for the NDP and sometimes not.
Avi Lewis mentioning the cold war in this interview and being sad about the communists being kicked out of the NDP annoyed me a little bit… Why is an aspiring PM of Canada talking about this very specific little party (I would say) non-issue that took place 50 years ago.
Everything else is fine. I would have liked to hear more of his opinion when it comes to trade and foreign policy, considering we live in a moment when that is at the top of everyone’s minds.

The problem with „socialism“ in the NDP is that the „NDP socialist caucus“ is so deranged they won’t even endorse Lewis because he’s not extreme enough. Trying to pander to the edges of the party is not a winning proposition because they’ll always find some minuscule excuse about how you’re not pure enough to support, and nothing you can do will change that. Most voters are in the centre.
