Victims of European imperialism and colonialism favoring a European power waging a genocidal war against its smaller and poorer neighbor. Makes sense.

Whatever we do we can’t let Serbia into the EU. That would be a historical mistake.

What I also noticed from comments on, for example, Dutch social media, is that many muslims approve russia’s actions and regime. All the way from the Netherlands, of course.

Living in Algeria currently, I wouldn’t say that most people care all that much for the war in Ukraine. They don’t condemn it but they don’t call it good either. Some students were in Ukraine before the war but others are now in Russia (I know a guy who is currently studying in Russia but I also know people that are currently in Poland, Germany or France (France is still one of the top destination choosen by students for example).
So this shouldn’t be read as algerians saying: „Go Russia, destroy Ukraine, next you should invade Berlin“. It’s more off an apathy. Algerians don’t really care about conflicts except for Palestine. In their minds war happens and it just happened now between Ukraine and Russia. Some could tell you that at least Russia is not supporting Israel and did not wage war in Irak but that’s it.

In some countries history weigh more for such questions, it should all be understood in a historical context of relations, also alignment in local disputes matters.
Do not equate these results with support for war in Ukraine now.
Vietnam I respect, India I somehow feel should know better, but maybe it is just wishful thinking.

Being on good terms with the Soviet Union was quite pleasant for third world countries that were too far away to be vassalised.
One-stop solutions for development aid rather than a mess of private and government projects, often on generous terms if you paid some lip service to socialist ideas, fewer concerns about colonial ambitions. Some of the goodwill is still there even if modern Russia has less to give.

Westerners often misunderstand an average Serbian’s predilection for Russia. Most of it comes from the 90s when NATO bombed Serbia, killing thousands of innocent civilians. Milosevic‘ politics was terrible, he was an unscrupulous person but that still doesn’t make it right to bomb civilians. Anti-western propaganda did its due and many Serbs started hating the West instead of Milosevic who was the primary wrongdoer to Serbia. Had EU accepted Serbia in 2000s most Serbs today would have been pro Western bcse they would live better lives. So there is also a sort of a misjudgement on the side of EU. Had Serbs been under USSR instead of having Yugoslavia which was open to West, Serbs would have been Russia haters. This way, since Russia is far away it is seen as a sort of a protector (weird).

That’s the reason why I don’t see Serbia being accepted to join the EU, it would be an even more problematic Hungary, full of russian agents.

Apart from India, why would any of the countries on that list have any reason to think about Russia at all? It’s like asking a Swede what he thinks of Malaysia.

Here’s a solution for the Ukraine war:
– Serbia is relocated to the Dombas and the occupied territories, it will be close to Russia and will even have maritime access!
– Ukraine gets Serbia.
