What definition of „cousin“ are they using? Just first cousins?

Northern and Eastern India had and still has a system called gotra System where you can’t marry within the same gotra or same clan but within sam caste in Hindus (Idk about Muslims but they tend to avoid cousin marriage at a limit)
Whereas in South India and Pakistan they kind of follow cousin marriage. In South India traditionally they didn’t get married outside of their village or river line of another village Ig .
