      [GeorgiaToday:](https://georgiatoday.ge/georgia-to-ban-import-of-cars-older-than-six-years/)

      > The Georgian government has submitted a draft law to parliament proposing a ban on the import of vehicles older than six years, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at today’s government session.
      >
      > Kobakhidze claimed that the number of registered vehicles in Georgia has more than doubled over the past decade, rising from 864,000 in 2012 to over two million this year. He said the sharp increase has contributed to growing traffic congestion and a deteriorating environmental situation.

      > The Prime Minister stressed that the proposed legislation is intended to address environmental and public health concerns, while also improving road safety and ensuring more comfortable mobility for citizens. Although the draft law includes several limited exceptions, Kobakhidze underscored that its primary goal is to prevent the import of vehicles older than six years.

    2. Is that so bad? Not Georgian but relatives are, you have shitload of wrecks on your roads that here in eastern EU would be banned by cops in five minutes. And cops don’t like to work here either

Newer car = higher cost to repair and higher cost of acquisition

This will directly impact the low and middle class, potentially worsening the credit crisis on these individuals while limiting transportation options for work.

This is one of those „good intentions“ with potentially negative unintended consequences.

Will that include the vast transit flow of exports to the North, or just cars cleared into Georgia

Reexport of used vehicles is one of the top 5 industries in the country. Even if you don’t consider the impact on Georgian drivers, this is going to eviscerate a lot of people in that business.
