Further isolating America from the global economy. The silence from republicans is deafening.

    2. Imaginary-Ad-7919 on

Wow, he didn’t like the way she talked, that’s a pretty big reason to impose tariffs.

    3. Thund3rbolt on

Well isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. Reality check, billions of people don’t the way he talks either or walks or smells for that matter.

    4. And these are emergency powers he is using to levy tariffs. I guess the emergency in this case is him having his feelings hurt.

    5. You know his whole legal logic of president enacting tariffs is based on IEEPA

„granting the President broad authority to regulate international commerce and financial transactions after declaring a national emergency in response to an „unusual and extraordinary“ foreign threat“

So even beyond the debate of tarrifs via IEEPA being illegal (even if its being hashed out constitution says explicitly only congress can levy taxes), any action done through this act has to be in response to legitimate emergency yet here he is saying „oh I just didn’t like their leader so I raised taxes on goods from the country“

    6. It’s almost too predictable how he treats women at this point.

      „You don’t smile enough.“

      „Quiet piggy“

„I don’t like the way she talked.“

      „Her laugh.“

      „She’s nasty.“

It’s always been this way. He’s more concerned about how a woman presents herself and not the person she is or position she’s in.

edit: Side note. Why does the image on this post look like Trump is one of those [puppets](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Few.com%2Fthmb%2F732ygg24grM5BZoxFPkedu5M9Nk%3D%2F1500x0%2Ffilters%3Ano_upscale()%3Amax_bytes(150000)%3Astrip_icc()%2FCY_Puppet_Reveal_Elmer_v1_1x1-1d091fe13bc84c4ca185affdb09e6c42.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=814096dcd982870a8c072009fd6e2f97c68cb0d034de9673439b4d945b28fbe0) half-filled with stuffing so that the ventriloquist can make the sarcastic facial expressions more pronounced?

Are presidents supposes to ‚rule‘ due to personal pettiness?

      I know the answer.

This honestly shouldn’t be acceptable. It’s so embarrassing and pathetic.

    8. Here he is, the distillation of all that is wrong with a substantial segment of American society.

Trump is an odious, feckless, craven, corrupt, immoral, unethical, misogynistic and fundamentally evil sex offender, convicted felon and failed “businessman”. He is a grifter, a liar, a serial adulterer and a coward.

And the entire world now suffers.

What a truly sad time for the world when such evil not only exists but has such power.

    9. Trump’s admin: Trump has a sound strategy utilizing tariffs to improve the economy for everyone.

Trump’s cult: Trump is playing 4D Chess.

Trump: I didn’t like the way she talked.

And 40 percent of Americans and 100 percent of Republicans in congress and the SCOTUS are happy to sit back and let this malevolent narcissist runs roughshod over the constitution he swore to defend. Every single day he commits an impeachable offense. Yesterday it was the Canadian Bridge. Today Tariffs on Switzerland.

ONLY CONGRESS HAS THE POWER TO TAX! Fuck sake.

Not to mention the blatant corruption and abuse of power. He has destroyed every US institution. Who is every going to believe anything the DOJ or FBI or FDA or CDC says or does again when we know they are all working personally for Donald Trump’s glory and not the American people or the law or the constitution or, in the case of the FDA and CDC, science?

    11. That’s solid foreign policy. I mean Putin lied to his face and killed people but that woman needs to watch her tone.

For fucks sake what are we doing?

    12. I love how he just throws tarrifs at anything he doesn’t like. Nobody takes it serious anymore. How this man was elected to be president TWICE I’ll never know.

    13. From the article: „*…after a phone call with the country’s* ***former*** *president.*“

      That’s not petty. That’s insane.

INFO: does Switzerland have „standing“ to sue the USA over this kind of nonsense?

    14. Please take note here SCOTUS when Trump’s people argue it was all about national security. More like National Vanity of Dear Leader Trump Un Dopey

    15. This is your regular reminder that **every single one of his tariffs has been, and continues to be, illegal**. Every one. He’s breaking the law and breaking our economy every single fucking day.

    16. ChickpeaDemon on

      >Again and again and again. I couldn’t get her off the phone,” the president continued. “So [the tariffs were] at 30 percent, and I didn’t really like the way she talked to us, and so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39 percent, and then I got inundated by people from Switzerland and I figured, ‘Do you know what? We’ll do something that’s a little bit more palatable.’”

The world has to suffer because of this man and his fragile ego.

    17. Except the head of Swizerland isn’t a „Prime Minister“ and is male.

      Darth Dementia Strikes Out

    18. But remember, we couldn’t elect Hillary or Harris bc women are too emotional and would ruin international relations if they had a bad day.

    19. So, 3 things to test the veracity if his claim:

      1) Switzerland does not have a Prime Minister.

      2) They have a seven member council with rotating members acting as chancellor, president and vice-president. .

      3) those people are all men.

I know it’s hard to believe, but perhaps Trump is entirely making up this conversation, where he’s the tough guy standing up to a nasty woman.

    20. Vanga_Aground on

Trump is exactly the leader Americans deserve. He’s a direct reflection of the country and its values.

    21. TheBlueBlaze on

What’s scary is that this is a form of power fantasy to his followers. He’s effectively saying „I don’t like the way you’re speaking to me, so I’m raising your prices“. They’re thinking that since they would kick out a Karen for being rude, that that must scale up perfectly to raising tariffs on a nation of millions because their leader wasn’t being nice.

This administration and its support is fueled by grievance, so nothing fits that better than doing economic harm out of spite. It’s all a game to them, so something this petty and childish is just an easy way to score more points.

    22. Emmatornado on

Remember when the right was claiming that Clinton and Harris were too emotional to be president because they are women?

    23. RetireWithRyan on

This man single handedly raises our taxes on a freaking whim, with no representation. If that’s not the ultimate ‚we’ve lost the plot‘ on this whole American experiment, I don’t know what is. Toss him in the harbor.
