Genuine question – Trump ignored Congress with implementing them in the first place. What motivation does he have to respect Congress overriding him in this case? From a practical perspective what changes now?

Senate and house voted them down now. I’m guessing Trump will veto. He was dumb to impose them on Canada. US was getting a great deal and Canada would have supported him more.

Getting rid of the tariffs aren’t going to get Canadians to buy American. That ship has sailed. Better offers from China. More stable partners in the EU. Cheaper and friendly vacations in Mexico and Central America.
Exactly how does Canada benefit from going back to the status quo?

Despite the comment negativity, this is a positive sign and does show that the Republicans house either wants to push back against Trump, or they are becoming very aware of their danger in the midterms.
Either way, House pushback against Trump is a whole lot better than acquiescence.

The article mentions that Trump is likely to veto it. Is that how the US works, the houses vote for things and then it is up to the president whether it goes through or not? Because that is mental.
I’m British and in theory the monarch can veto anything, but everyone basically accepts that the day they do that is the day we stop having a monarch. Hell, the Lords can only send a bill back to the Commons three times and after that it can be pushed through using the Parliament Act.

Congratulations to the House of Representatives for the successful vote to wrestle back authority to implement tariffs to the Legislative Branch of Government. The Supreme Court should follow your lead and judge that the Executive Branch does not have the authority in the U.S. Constitution for their disasterous tariff program.
