    1. Any town starting with a capital letter.

Lads can we just fucking ban AirBnBs. Who cares if some parasites lose money.

lol. Towns >20000, so excludes Killarney. Handy result for the former constituency of South Kerry.

In other words, it’s a boon for expensive city hotels, and may create more construction in these locations, and an F U to the housing crisis for rural Ireland, where there’ll be no incentive to build a hotel and a jobs ecosystem around it.

I’d hate to be a young couple forming a household in Killarney reading this news, or god forbid trying to buy a house vs investors on a local salary.

      >Killarney, Kenmare and all towns in Kerry – bar Tralee – will be exempt

That’s an odd way to phrase it. Why not just „All towns in Kerry – bar Tralee – will be exempt“.

Doesn’t matter I suppose, seems a bit pointless to bring in legislation meant to help local renters in tourist towns and then exempt all the tourist towns.

    4. Haely Rae was on the TV recently intsrviewed by Zoom. He had his cap on to show he’s a simple country fella and not a multimillionaire grifter at all. But what respectable country person of his generation would wear a hat indoors?

I know there’s probably plenty of rich people hoovering up spare properties at the expense of first time buyers but what about the people who’ve worked hard on a semi decent wage to be able to afford a holiday home which they intermittently let out to cover costs?
Is this not an example of the citizens helping to solve a problem of the governments making?

In 2035 all houses will be AirBNB, you will own nothing, but be happy.

Banning short term lets like air BnB will free up lots of properties. At the bare minimum don’t allow anymore

I have a coriander plant on my windowsill that has become so wilted and dead that it only has around 2 leaves left and it’s still more useful than this fucking inept government.

      Pulled from Google,

Some towns I see doing ok from the clampdown but need more hotel space, like Ennis, then there is everywhere else in Ireland with housing issues for example, everywhere in Tipp that really will not benefit

ITT: Dubs who don’t understand tourism.

B&B’s, hotels and Airbnb are the backbone of most of the west coast and economy there. Everyone benefits off money brought in by them. A photo of Healy Rae to get you all riled up, doesn’t change the reality.
