FDR was *West* Germany.
DDR was East Germany.
The reason Hungary has more than East Germany is the same as East Germany.
East Germany was also really inclusive for the time with their athletes.
Some of the female ones even had beards!
Notice they would have even more – but there was a United (West + East) German team at the Olympics in 1956, 1960 and 1964; plus DDR boycotted the 1984 games in Los Angeles.
I wonder how it counts Soviet medals
if an athlete was from Ukrainian SSR would their medals be counted as Ukrainian, Russian or neither?
