Some people are really foolish, and/or just don’t want to see what’s right in front of their eyes.

    > Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) on Monday said she now understands “what the big deal is” after reviewing unredacted files tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

    >“I’ve not been one of the members who has glommed on to this as an issue,” Lummis said in an interview with journalist Pablo Manríquez. “I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it. But nine-year-old victims … Wow.”

    >“Well, initially, my reaction to all this was, ‘I don’t care. I don’t know what the big deal is.’ But now I see what the big deal is, and it was worth investigating,” she added. “And the members of Congress that have been pushing this were not wrong. So that’s really my only reaction.”

This person has poor character. Never mind that the women testified, never mind having empathy and believing what they said. I know, GOP, etc.

  3. shackleford1917 on

Translation: ‚The political winds are changing for this issue so I am as well.‘

  4. Extension_Pin_6359 on

It’s hard to get people to admit something when their job requires that they not admit it.

Now that she’s retiring, the mask comes off.

    Monsters, all of them.

  5. CouchCorrespondent on

This person should not represent ANYONE.

Also, what the fuck is that shirt?

  6. Blackthorn79 on

Oh, okay. Since you realize now, I’m sure you’re still qualified to keep your job. What type of politician could bury their head so deep in the sand that they are just now grasping that this is an issue? There was a god damn vote to release the files, multiple discussions of how the administration is covering it up, and accusations of it being the motivation behind multiple other controversial decision, but now it’s something you’re taking seriously.

  7. Because everything was so obvious from the start, its going to be difficult to separate those who knew and those who were intentionally ignorant to the facts so they didn’t have to admit they knew.
Neiter seems desirable from an elected official.

  8. pinkhalcyon on

Wow… it only took seeing the files for them to understand? Imagine how many people just ignored the whole thing before.

  9. samueladams6 on

“Trump, who was named in the files but not accused of wrongdoing…”

    The fuck is this?

  10. Bakedfresh420 on

Now? Not 10 years ago when he was bragging about assaulting women and barging into underage girls dressing rooms? Now you care about women…gtfoh with that performative bs. They’re all pedo protectors and need to be swept out of office.

  11. „I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it“ is an insane defense for ignoring an international pedophile ring

  12. Inspectorgadget4250 on

My guess is if it were her 9 y/o daughter, she might have seen the light long ago.

  13. ShambolicRubel on

You got to hand it to Massie, I don’t like his politics but he’s been pretty consistent on this issue and seems to be willing to burn down the house over it.

  14. iamamuttonhead on

Apparently it’s only a problem for her now that it involves pre-pubescent children. Children past puberty were not a problem for her.

  15. > “I’ve not been one of the members who has glommed on to this as an issue,” Lummis said in an interview with journalist Pablo Manríquez. “I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it. But 9-year-old victims … wow.”

Either this is incredible negligence or crass politics at an insane level. Either way it should be disqualifying

  16. There is nothing in the Epstein files that have been released so far that is worse for Trump than all of the things he’s already done or said (convicted of sexual assault, admitted to grabbing women by the pussy without asking etc) and he got elected after all that.

So anyone changing sides right now aren’t doing it because they’ve suddenly realised how disgusting he is.

  17. „Willful ignorance“. That’s the phrase you want.

If you stick your head in the sand deep enough, you don’t have to do anything because „I didn’t know“…“I wasn’t paying attention“…“ not my thing“…“I was focused on other things“.

  18. No-Group-4504 on

She didn’t see what the big deal was until it involved 9-year-olds???? WHERE THE FUCK DO THESE PEOPLE COME FROM!!!!

  19. CosmicMamaBear on

These white women look the other way all the time for their husbands, male family members, bosses, pastors or priests.

In the literature on the history of racism and enslavement, how else do you stay married to someone who rapes and beats enslaved women and children? Or allow your church to beat and abuse Indigenous children in reform schools. The mindset stayed to comply with power and remain safe and benefit in some way.

  20. Too late.

In 2008 it was “Too big to fail”

In 2026 it’s “Too rich to jail”

  21. NightchadeBackAgain on

Oh, NOW you fucking get it?!? How about you do you Constitutionally mandated duty for fucking once, then?

  22. “I’ve not been one of the members who has glommed on to this as an issue,” Lummis said in an interview with journalist Pablo Manríquez. “I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it. But 9-year-old victims … wow.”

Mother of God. Who says shit like this? It’s the most prolific child sex traficker to ever fucking live, murdered in prison, a president who raped children with him, and you’re like “Damn I just realized, this is pretty shocking. I mean, shit, I thought it was just 14/15 year olds getting raped. 9 is too young”

  23. defiant-raven on

Oh so 13 and 14 is fine but 9 is where they draw the line 🙄 I guess once they hit puberty anything is literally up for grabs.

  24. Thomasreed1899 on

Jesus. You weren’t concerned when it was 14 year old girls and billionaires. It took a 10 year old for it to bother you. Conservatives are monsters. I guess they believe if you’re old enough to have a period it’s less serious. Did they think those 14 year old girls wanted to be there.

  25. howdiditgetinthere on

    „At first I didn’t care.“

That’s her original opinion on the Epstein files. Why does it take finding out about a 9-year old to care about human sex trafficking?

  26. > Lummis said in an interview with journalist Pablo Manríquez. “I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it. But 9-year-old victims … wow.”

    > “Well, initially, my reaction to all this was, ‘I don’t care. I don’t know what the big deal is.’ But now I see what the big deal is

What the fuck. How can you even be tangentially aware of the Epstein files and not know it’s about literal kids.

Ffs these people love playing the ‘I didn’t know’ card.

  27. ScornForSega on

Oh fuck off. Y’all knew. Everybody did.

Until GOP Senators are willing to vote to convinct and remove in an impeachment, it’s just more talk.

  28. Jack_Q_Frost_Jr on

So, she didn’t care if there were victims. She didn’t care if there were underage victims. But she did care if there was a victim who was nine. Someone should ask her exactly how old a victim needs to be before she begins to give a damn.

  29. ICE is deeply unpopular. MAGA is deeply unpopular. They’re getting annihilated in any election they run.

Sounds like we’ll see a centrist switch here soon. Remember who they are. Name them. Shame them.

You have kess access to the files then them and yet you saw all along how bad they were.

  30. Oh trump was raping kids? Cool. Oh trump was raping kids? cool. Oh trump was raping kids? cool…

Oh trump was raping kids? THIS IS WORSE THEN I THOUGHT!

  31. WarmWorldliness7504 on

Republicans are retiring left and right. Must have to do with finding out your party protects pedophiles.

  32. greaterwhiterwookiee on

Her quote “Initially my reaction to all this was ‘I don’t care. I don’t see what the big deal is’”.

That says enough to me that she wasn’t doing her job. When your constituents are saying to release the files you do the leg work to see why.

This woman can go ahead and rot in jail as well.

  33. Belerophon17 on

“Well, initially, my reaction to all this was, ‘I don’t care. I don’t know what the big deal is.’ But now I see what the big deal is, and it was worth investigating,”

    I just… I just can’t with these people.

  34. basically her response is „oh now that i actually looked at what constituents were upset about I see why they could be upset… before that I just didn’t give a single shit, but anyways here is my statement so that when I run for re-election I can state that I was vocal about being not-so-pro-pdo.“

    shitty person, shitty party.

  35. apersononline2 on

“Well, initially, my reaction to all this was, ‘I don’t care. I don’t know what the big deal is.’

Really!!! Billionaire world wide jet setting pedophile with political and high powered individual connections! What’s the big deal????

I swear I think I’m living in a different reality sometimes. Is this the Bad Place????

  36. Sharp-Calligrapher70 on

Oh they absolutely knew what the big deal was and I call BS on their sudden revelations. They’re just now realizing how continuing to act clueless isn’t helping their re-election aspirations.

We need to hold them accountable in November. This is one of those times voters need to extend their working memory beyond two weeks and remember come Election Day who enabled the protection of pedophiles.

  37. IncompetentLiving on

    >“Well, initially, my reaction to all this was, ‘I don’t care. I don’t know what the big deal is.’

This GOP Senator is a moron. How can anyone hearing about the abuse of children say „I don’t care“ or „whats the big deal“? Oh, I get it now, it didn’t involve anyone she knew.

  38. “Oh, when people said ‘they’re raping children’ I just didn’t realize they meant these people were raping children. Silly me, I get it now, please pretend I’m a good person and not a vile sack of shit who’s only switching sides because I now realize I’m on the losing side of history.”

  39. I-need-ur-dick-pics on

That’s like saying “12 Years a Slave” really changed the way you feel about slavery.
