Bill Maher is a gateway comic you laugh at during that time of your life when you think you got it all figured out. Then life happens and you keep growing up and at some point you wonder what you ever found amusing about his smug, self satisfied pretentiousness. I’ve noticed his latest HBO marketing has been positioning him as speaking truth to power but ..c’mon Bill…you spent decade trying and failing to be the „both sides“ guy. No one is buying it. If the President of the United States was personally attacking my spouse (amid an avalanche of other truly evil things) and my family still supported him, then I’d cut them off too. They chose Trump over their family, and Kimmel’s wife is choosing to defend her husband.
Plus, imagine how tone deaf you’d have to be to hear that story as their friend, then make fun of them for it on your show. If they were willing to cut off family members, do you really think they’re not willing to cut you off too?
The only people pressed about other people cutting off family for being maga are maga.
Which, fundamentally, I’ve never understood. Their whole ideology is hating everything about us and wanting to systematically exterminate it. When we leave their lives, wouldn’t they view that itself as a win? But they don’t. They want their cake and to eat it too.
