Das ist berühmt "Oktopus" Die satirische Karte wurde erstmals im März 1877 veröffentlicht, zwei Monate nachdem Russland das Osmanische Reich als Reaktion auf das türkische Massaker an christlichen Bulgaren (hier dargestellt durch einen Schädel) angegriffen hatte. Eine Legende an der Ecke der Karte erklärt die Position der Großmächte und betroffenen Länder.
Diese Karte gilt allgemein als das kartografische Meisterwerk des britischen Grafikers Fred Rose.
