      Oklahoma has a similar HDI as Saudi Arabia. Can’t believe Saudi Arabia has let itself be dragged down to that level.

      I can’t believe “rich” Qatar has the same development as “struggling” Alabama. HDI must count migrant workers then.

      **Alabama = Qatar, that shade of red is easily identifiable and that’s not the main problem with this map

      There are 8(?) states whose closest comparable is UAE in terms of HDI?

      Is Michigan’s closest comparable Netherlands or Luxembourg? I’m thinking Luxembourg based on the shade of red but both feel wrong.

      Long story short – too many of these are hard to identify because of the state’s shape… I know flags pretty well and it still makes my brain hurt

      Awful map. Should be patterns of flags repeated small enough so every state had at least one full flag inside of it.

      Sorry, OP, this is clunky and not very visually accessible. Flags are hard to recognize.

      What is going on here? It looks like California, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Illinois, New York and Maine are all the same. This is not it.

      No shade on OP, but this is a textbook example of why „flag maps“ are never good maps. It’s almost impossible to distinguish flags in any kind of complex borders (& this is coming from someone who generally knows his flags). Particularly between flags of a shared stylistic origin (e.g. British ensign, Arab nationalism, black African, etc.)

      WTF is Maine? Is that supposed to be Syria? Geriatric Maine is the same HDI as a country in civil war for the last decade?

      Can you make the flags recognizable? Let me rephrase: you should make the flags recognizable before posting to “map porn,” this is more like “map ad” or “map magazine cover,”

      It looks like Wisconsin bled in to Michigan. What flag is that for Michigan?
