Erm… this is actually austerity and neoliberalism. Why doesn’t David Eby just do a wealth tax or do Modern Monetary Theory and quadruple the public service.
Its okay though, he’s just another fake NDPer.
How and why were 2,000 people hired in the first place ?
I am asking because I remember the heydays of public institutions hiring spree a few years ago and I’ve always been curious how were those jobs justified ?
For reference, the budget deficit for the state of California is $3 billion, they have an economy twice the size of all of Canada.
Would have been a 10 billion deficit if they didnt cancel the carbon tax with no way to make up for lost revenue.
A 2025 analysis from the Business Council of British Columbia said there were 612,000 B.C. public sector employees in the province, about 134,000 more than pre-pandemic trends suggested.
So 2000 is really a drop in the bucket then. I’m fine running a deficit as long as the government continues to deliver tangible results on stuff like housing and transit
