Submission Statement: A former Cold War-era US naval facility in the Indo-Pacific is being repurposed for strategic regional use.
The Subic Bay shipyard in the Philippines, is undergoing a transition from a dormant port into a center for both commercial and potential defense-related activities, under the management of a South Korean shipbuilding conglomerate and backed by US private equity investment.
Also, located approximately 1,000 kilometers from Taiwan, Subic Bay is currently housing logistical warehouses for the US Marine Corps and the US Department of Defense has also been instructed to study the feasibility of using the location for forward-deployed ammunition production by late 2026.
