Korea should just do what Canada is doing. Ignore the US, diversify your trade, stop ’negotiating‘ with them (this is a losing game, as they can just create new tariffs out of thin air any time). And most of all, recognize the fact that the US no longer cares about Korea’s security, and the most important truth: the US wants to cannibalize Korea (and their other allies) to save itself. If you’re going to deal with the US, you’d better be prepared to give all your industries, whether they be shipbuilding, nuclear, semiconductors, cars, batteries, defense, and even all your cash ($350 billion in total so far, but more will be demanded in the future).
Are you going to stand up for your country, or are you going to continue to hope against all hope? Even if Trump leaves power tomorrow, the „US first and only“ mentality will not change. South Korea needs to face this uncomfortable truth while you still have something left to protect for the next generation of Koreans.
