    1. A nice example of an urban repair project in Europe I would say.
It really shows how the choice is between a hellhole made for cars and a city made for humans. Luckily the bitumen wasteland was never completed, so it always stayed fairly useless, which made undoing it also a lot easier.

The photo is not from the same angle. The river and grass are behind the road.

We need for our cities to be greener, but these photos are just a lie

Edit : to all the butthurt people defending their city : yes the project is real, I’m saying the photos are faking the transformation: it’s completely exaggerated. The project doesn’t need that. Here you go with a real comparable angle : https://imgur.com/a/Bq0k7Vu Part of the street got replaced, but there is still a lot of asphalt around

You say “the” but that’s only an example
Of how much Utrecht and Dutch cities as a whole have changed in the last 30 years

Love what the dutchies are doing. Good work neighbors. Also glad to see more cities are getting bike friendly here as well!

Did they demolish the “new” building under “1982” and turned that into new “old looking” buildings?

      Two questions:

      1. how and where did they transfer the passenger flow? Are there fewer people living in the city?

      2. Dampness from the canal. Will this cause health problems? Has the heating system in the houses changed?

    7. Wow, even though one pic of gray and other full of color, you can just feel the difference, makes you feel more relaxed.

    8. I wish my beloved Portugal could learn a thing or two from the Dutch. Beautiful, human cities and towns with overall great infrastructure. Happily jealous for them!

We’ve been trying to do a more extreme version of this in Portugal this winter. People ain’t too happy.

What a bunch of idiots, they should’ve just added another lane.

Talmente bello da non sembrare vero. Complimenti dall’italia

    12. I wish this could happen in Bulgaria, but 95% of the people want more lanes and parking spots, while public transport is 3/4 empty apart from about 1hr in the morning and evening.

If I lived in the netherlands, I don’t know if I would bother owning a car. One of those cargo bicycles would be all required. Also starting to get envious of the super flat …everything.

The older I get, the less I enjoy going uphill both ways for every little thing.
