Democrat Chasity Martinez won Saturday’s special election for Louisiana State House District 60, defeating Republican Brad Daigle 62% to 38%. +24

Trump won this district by 13% in 2024 so another big overperformance by Democrats.

Was this the seat that was supposed to be the first flip for the GOP since 2024? Cause, if so… boy are they in trouble.

The Republicans are losing fucking *Louisiana*. Let that sink in.

The Republicans have seriously misjudged the popular rage at this moment. I had expected them to find a scapegoat and throw him or her under the bus by now.

    >Martinez, a member of the Iberville Parish Council, earned 62% of the vote against Daigle, a small-business owner and member of the Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission.

While Martinez took a nearly 2-to-1 victory, District 60 is a somewhat purple area, which voted for Donald Trump in each of his three elections, but also swung back to vote for Gov. John Bel Edwards in the Democrat’s 2019 reelection.

*Do not wait for the midterms*.

**There are 44 elections in February alone** [according to Ballotpedia](https://ballotpedia.org/Elections_calendar) that are spanning: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, New Jersey, Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, Wisconsin, Delaware, Maine, and Pennsylvania.

Change *does not* start at the midterms or presidential elections; those elections only reinforce. Change *starts* at the numerous state, county, judicial, sheriff, mayor, city council, and education board election that happens between *now* and the midterms.

*Every* seat Democrats win at *any* level makes rigging the midterms that much harder for Trump. So *do not wait* until the midterms. Exercise every ounce of your right to vote *before* Trump moves to end them.

  6. This is great, sort of…. I mean as the blue wave flows through those managing the DNC will take credit for this, as if they have done fucking anything that was helpful, besides being spineless complicit mfers.

  7. Obvious_Visual5451 on

Please don’t get to excited over this race. I’ve lived in this district for 44 years and have known Chasity since we were babies. She’s very well known in the district and her family are very well known. I’m a republican and I voted for her vbecause I know her and I know she’s about as far to the other side of the modern democrats as you can get.

Keep track of her voting record once she’s in the house if you don’t believe me. Guarantee she votes with the Republicans 99% of the time.

  8. FitMatch7966 on

Appears to be solid blue district in a state where democrats didn’t bother to vote in 2024

  9. SliceofNewsMan on

With a news cycle that just seems to be one bad thing after another, this kind of good news is a nice reprieve from it all

More Dems taking former Trump won districts is always nice to see

Assuming the midterms aren’t just *entirely* compromised and rigged fully for Republicans already, Dems are going to flip Congress for Democrats almost for sure, because it is just so clear the people are tired of Trumpism and how its only made their lives worse and they want something else

Democrats are not perfect by any means, but they are certainly a better choice and I look forward to seeing this trend of Dems wins to continue into November so at least the last part of the Vance presidency won’t be quite *so* bad and hopefully 2028 will get us a nice Dem President as a result

  10. There are Heritage Foundation billboards along one of the main highways of this district.

  11. Another win for the good guys. +37% swing from 2024. The GOP is still locked in their own echo chamber of bullshit and appear oblivious to the immense popular outrage.

Which leaves us with one important question. How can the DEMs fuck this up?
