The Gas salesman Orban has de facto banned wind turbines. Hungary has 300 Megawatt wind turbine capacity installed. Austria has 4 Gigawatt wind turbine capacity, most of this in the eastern parts of the country. The Pannonian Plain could be filled with wind turbines and cover the domestic electricity demand as well as generate income from exports. Combined with pump-storage hydroelectric power plants in tha Alps and the Capathian mountains, a wide part of energy independence could be achieved. Only few parts of the possible capacity for hydroelectric plants on the Danube in Hungary are utilized. The hungarian side of the Gabcikovo power plant has never been built, plans for a power plant at Nagymaros have been shelved. There is no reason why Hungary should import fossil fuels for electricity generation.
