      >Conservatives are hoping to avoid going to the polls by working with the Liberals to pass key pieces of the government’s legislative agenda

This has been said by a whole host of politicos the last week or so. The liberals have the leverage for now and will have the threat of an election over them. (Its been said from a few CPCers at their convention who think the Liberals get a majority if an election was held now).

    2. The conservatives seem very convinced a Spring election is coming but it really doesn’t feel like it’s happening at this point? I’m not sure Carney strikes me as someone who would risk calling an election unless the polls were apocalyptic for the conservatives. The Liberals are polling in majority territory right now (in massive majority territory according to mainstreet) but if you wanted to benefit from that, you’d call an election right now.

Dude I genuinely feel for Conservatives, I disagree with them ideologically but the Liberals have been doing exceptionally poorly in terms of governance for the past decade. The CPC needs to recuperate and re strategize a winning platform. For a healthy democracy we must have a strong opposition, even if it is the Conservatives. I think just having a NeoLiberal 1000 year reich is not healthy for our country. I would also say the handling of the economy was not optimal from the Liberals, although I concede the Conservatives would be worse.

    4. I’d be quite surprised if he didn’t run in Alberta, probably somewhere safe in Calgary. Yorkton-Melville would just be embarrassing since it’s a third province, and one he doesn’t have much connection to. And Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke isn’t safe enough that he can just parachute in without doing ground work, which we’d have seen by now.

Trying to think of the last Canadian party leader who represented what might be considered a competitive constituency. Maybe Mulcair in Outremont?

For a political party so concerned about being financially responsible, they seem to want to waste so much of the tax payers money to try and gain traction with elections while nothing had changed in their party leadership or direction

Likely Algonquin—Renfrew—Pembroke. Near Ottawa and so safe, they keep re-electing whackjob Cheryl Gallant. They dangle a plum appointment for her to retire. Unsurprised Scott Reid of Lanark-Frontenac didn’t reply. Constituents have the same issue. This riding isn’t as safe as it once was. Michelle Foxton worked hard and got pretty close. The desire for change is strong. And it wouldn’t be for Pierre although the diehard electorate can be counted on. They’re just getting smaller.

There is not going to be a spring election. The conservatives are protecting what they’d do with Carney’s numbers. But Carney’s busy trying to turn Canada into the leader of the middle powers.

I thought it was made pretty clear last election that he’d be running in his prior Ottawa riding for the next election.

    10. Unless he finally got his security clearance there is no way anyone should vote for him, given the current state of the world.

    11. Let’s a least be honest about this.

All this Sabre rattling about a possible election soon is all coming from the Conservatives, there’s zero indication that the Liberals are going to pull the rip cord on this.
