      It might surprise some to know that during the time that California, New Mexico, and Texas were part of Mexico, New Mexico was by far the most populated of the three.

      90% of the Mexican citizens that became part of America after the Mexican American war were living in New Mexico.

    3. Texas and California are demographically similar and this affects their current culture more than either would like to admit.

      The 2 most populous states in the US have Hispanics as the largest single group followed closely by Whites. You just have to flip the percentages of Blacks and Asians in each state.

      Amazing how fast the Hispanic population has grown in the southwest. At the beginning of the century New Mexico, Texas, and California were all majority or nearly majority non Hispanic white
