Can’t see the article, but presumably didn’t save for retirement and now doesn’t have much money?
Isn’t that somewhere a consequence of my actions moment.

Did not want to take a mortgage 40 years ago? Lived abroad? or was in prison?

Great idea, may more pensioners follow his example

He should have given up his BBC subscription and getting pints of Double Diamond, he could have bought a house then.

I keep getting adverts on Facebook, ‚I have to choose between heating and eating‘. Lots of their grandchildren are probably doing the same…

Nothing like a post about older people in hard times to showcase the nasty side of many posters

I didn’t save for retirement, despite being a part of the most privileged generation in human existence.

lay off the netflix and avocado toast and you’ll be alright

Maybe a bit less avocado toast and fewer international holidays and this chap could get on the property ladder. Don’t fret old boy, just pull yourself up by your bootstraps!

Welcome to the world of the under 30’s.
At least you had the chance to make it. They haven’t

He probably made some poor choices but let’s be honest. British state pension, paying in your whole working life for a barely livable payout, isn’t exactly innocent compared to Germany or France

I can’t even lie for all the shitty comments here I don’t really think your life should be spent saving for a retirement that may never even come! Why should I suffer now and be miserable for the chance of what, retiring in my 60s with the health issues that brings?

Excellent, they should alll be in one bedroom houses or flats, not hoarding family homes.

I really don’t see why a pensioner should get more sympathy for this than a graduate.

Two people buy a house together so the prices rose by loads due to the amount of money two people could pool compared to the old way with a stay at home wife
Eventually tenants will realise they can buy five room property together instead of renting and suddenly all the couples will be out priced as well

Imagine being part of the generation with the most voting power in history, who essentially ruined everything for future generations by consistently voting in their own favour. Who consistently told young people, who complained about life being unaffordable, to just move to a worse area, or move further from their jobs, or sacrifice little material joys in life. And then coming out and complaining about the very life you sneered at others for complaining about.
Idk, maybe live within your means. Maybe buy less fancy coffee or avocado toast 👍.
Maybe move to an area further away from your family or friends- it’s costly to live in these trendy areas y’know?

Not to sound like a broken record but this is going to be a very real problem that will pop up in the next 5-10 years. There’s a lot of people who never saved via a pension or missed out on the older DB pensions with little saved for retirement that are going to be very costly to house…

So its ok if someone from Gen Y or Z has to do this, but as soon as a boomer has to, its injustice, its not right!! Look how we are treating how pensioners!!!
