From the article, JD Vance’s suggestion for a performer:

    >“There are so many eyes on the Super Bowl, a lot of young, impressionable children. And I think, in my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that,“ he said. Greenwood, who is 83, is famous for his song „God Bless the USA.“

All the kids love Lee Greenwood! I work at a university and all the Lee Greenwood swag the undergrads wear is mind boggling.

Because it creates controversy and controversy drives viewers and viewers equal $. It’s why the m o r o n won’t shut up about it.

  3. Money. From the article, the answer is money (in the form of global outreach).

Even if it’s just for money I’m happy when any organization stands up against trump and his merry band of shitheels.

  4. „Why is [COMPANY] doing [ANYTHING]???“

To get more money. To increase inward money flow. The answer to this formula is always money. He’s the most popular artist in the country right now and he’s a relatively controversial choice in the current politics. I’d imagine they very much wanted him to do a show.

„The administration has since worked to ease tensions and shift its policy.“

    When was that?

It’s weird that I see people online acting like he’s some small unknown artist. He was the top selling artist of the last year, just had the best selling tour of the year, and I think he’s like…one of the most streamed artists out there, either 1st or 2nd only to Taylor Swift. I admit I do not know a single damn song, but he’s hugely popular.

Because they operate in reality and not just within the social media fake outrage machine?

Probably because they didn’t want to cater to the same group of people who’ve boycotted their product 50 different times over the past decade

Because he’s the most popular artist globally and will bring a lot of viewers. And they need to expand their audience to distract from the CTE.

That or they just have taste.

The half time show isn’t for the domestic audience. The artist isn’t chosen to bring in US viewers because the ratings will already be baked in, even if a game that isn’t a “marquee matchup.” The artist is chosen to attract international audiences and juice viewership around the world. Not only to help the NFL’s worldwide expansion plans, but to enable international markets to charge high rates for their domestic advertising. Bad Bunny is a huge international draw. MAGA would have to light the venue on fire to change the NFL’s mind.

The thing a lot of the US needs to reckon with is the NFL, as well as a lot of other organizations not at all sports affiliated, are businesses at the end of the day and want to grow. They know the US will show up either way they always do. So they’re looking to appeal internationally more and more.

If you want them to change that you need to stop giving them your money and attention. Americans are so addicted to consumerism no matter how mad they get, they never stop spending money and showing up. The last few years especially more than ever have proven that. No matter how much prices go up and things get worse financial data still shows spending extremely high and growing domestically. Why would anyone try to appeal extra hard to you when your money and attention is a given? You want to increase your money and consumer base as a business and that’s what they’re trying to do.

  12. Because a lot of their older, white racist fans from a bygone era will be dead soon and their offspring and their kids‘ offspring thankfully aren’t as bad as they are (at least overall) and the NFL gonna need a fanbase who watches 10 years down the line.

  13. …because losing money isn’t what the NFL does. It’s what the Republicans do.

Meanwhile we all have to pretend that ignoring an old racist-rapist is soo brave!! Way to go mega-corporations 👏👏👏

  15. Surprised about how few people talking about how Puerto Rico is a US territory. You don’t even need a passport to go there (pre real ID). Saw a funny tweet about how no one called out the Rolling Stones or The Who for not being “American” He’s literally more of this country than so many past performers.

  16. Money. There’s no other reason I don’t even need to click the link to tell you that.

  17. Also everyone that has ever backed down to MAGA has gotten it worse afterwards. It pays 0 dividends to back down.

  18. He’s one of the biggest artists in the world. Why wouldn’t the NFL stand by him. I don’t understand why maga is against him . He’s an American.

The owners and goodell love republicans for rich guy taxes and shit, but they HATE Trunk. The NFL is so much more powerful and symbolic than Trunk and he can’t fuck with them.
