      House cats can pretend to be injured prey as a way to train their young on how to hunt. They also use the action of pretend to manipulate humans into food giving or comfort giving compliance. Animals are smart.

      These scientists have clearly never met dogs. You’ve never noticed a dog pretending they have to pee so you’ll let them outside? Only to learn they didn’t actually have to pee.

      I don’t believe people thought or wrote the opposite in the last 40 years, I think people just didn’t do the research to be able to say that directly.

      My dog pretends to be 100% stupid when its convenient for her instead of only 85% like normal. Animals are way smarter than we have ever given them credit

      I’ve seen many dogs pretend to be hurt for snacks. There’s youtube videos of this. Unless they mean maliciousness, I’m confused.

      All these studies with different animals that come out saying a characteristic „once thought unique to humans“ and all I’m thinking is WHO once thought this was unique to humans? Because anyone who has ever spent time with animals quickly learns that most of them also pretend – when they’re alone and when they’re playing with each other or with humans. At this point we should know that most emotions or behaviors we ascribe to „only“ humans being capable of having is just narrow minded and wrong.
