I don’t believe in Horvat story. As born Croatian, I have been around the Croatia, in all areas, and I’ve met people from all sides, more than average people do. And I met only one Croatian Horvat in my life (I’m over 50 now), in high-school. I did meet 3 more Horvats, but 2 of them were Hungarian, and one was Czech. I would say Kovać, or Vukić (or options like Vuković, Vukelić) are much more common.
