It’s a real shame that when the police say they’re still investigating the theft, they’re probably talking about the theft _from_ the grocery chain, not _by_ the grocery chain.

OK, I take that back. They are part of the major grocery industry. But this theft is still pointless. Insurance will cover the loss. Insurance premiums may increase, and be covered by increases in food costs.
If these people really want to drive down food costs, they need to be providing cheaper sourced food, with those reduced costs coming all along the supply chain.
