Wonderful. Who needs healthcare, education, affordable groceries, or reliable transit when we can *get more fighter jets*
We need to do something to fix the fact that we don’t even have the pilots and air crew to keep our existing fleet of CF-18’s operational; [the fighter squadrons on average are sitting at 66% staffing rate for just the pilots alone. The RCAF average for the other fleets is closer to 90%.](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/air-force-bonus-system-9.6946010)
Buying more fighters is all good and dandy, but without pilots, they are just multi-million dollar lawn ornaments.
Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before.
It feels like we’ve been talking about buying new planes and/or subs and ships for 40 years now.
South aiming nukes is what we really need. We’ll never realistically deter American aggression with a tiny conventional force.
We have massive airspace and need at least double if not triple.
And of course most importantly, the pilots to fly them.
