Between the calendar year and the us standard measuring system they’ve been trying to confuse us from birth.

    2. There is a 13th zodiac, Ophiuchus, that was removed. So yea you’re onto something

The Chad 13 month system vs the wizard 12 month system. I know which one I opt for.

You want to disrespect Roman Emperors and make their months as ling as any other month? July and August are named after roman emperors — Julius Caesar and Emperor Augustus. Thats why both have 31 day in them, because its the higest number of days and Emperor Augustus is equal to Julius Caesar in his deeds.

    5. People often say we “lost” a 13‑month lunar calendar, but it’s not that simple. What we really had were lunar cycles people rounded to ~28 days for convenience, even though a true lunar month is ~29.53 days. That drift meant calendars constantly went out of sync.

To deal with agriculture, seasons, and festivals, societies shifted toward a Sun + Moon compromise — basically a farmer’s almanac approach where the Sun set the year and the Moon influenced ritual time. In that sense, it’s a Sol–Mon calendar (or jokingly, a “Solomon’s calendar”): practical order over natural purity.

Rome later standardized a solar administrative calendar, and Christianity inherited it rather than redesigning it. Instead of starting fresh, they just kept correcting errors. That’s why we’re left with uneven months (31, 30, and 28 days) — they don’t serve a deeper function, they’re historical leftovers.

As for 12 vs 13: it’s not really a conspiracy. There are actually 13 constellations the Sun passes through — Ophiuchus is the one that got ignored. But twelve is easier to divide, symbolize, and manage, so astrology (and calendars) focused on twelve signs. Thirteen didn’t disappear — it just became the “extra” month, leap day, or ignored zodiac sign. Stability won over accuracy.

That’s how Ethiopian calendars are. 13th month has 1 extra day every 4 years.

In my cultures (anishinaabe/haudenosaunee) we follow the moons, so typically we have 13 in a year.

28 days exactly with one day left over for a winter festival (sol invictus) every four years it’s a 2 day banger or we do it on the 6th month.

      28 x 13 =364

    9. It wouldnt be exact because the earth doesn’t rotate around the sun in a perfect circle. Or even an elipse.

There is a 13th zodiac called Ophiucus, the serpent bearer. His constellation is the only other one the sun passes through and people born between November 29th and December 17th could technically have this as their sign.

Christopher Clavius who was a Jesuit priest changed the calendar in 1582. He designed the changes for the Gregorian calendar, which consisted of dropping roughly ten days. He was an astronomer for the church. Only the church and its followers used it at first. Now it’s recognized everywhere.

    12. Any conspiracy about why this topic has become so popular across several different subs today?

    13. AnxietyTurbulent4861 on

It’s not really a conspiracy, they just decided 12 months were better.

    14. The Kodak calendar. It would be cool, but back in the day the early civilizations were big into base 6 and base 12 counting, and the solstice happening every 3 months on the same calendar day is appealing.

    15. My sister worked at a restaurant named 13 Moons. It was named that because there are 13 Moon cycles in a year, and the restaurant changed its menu with every cycle.

    16. 12 months
      30 days in a month
1 intercalary day between each season
      364 days exactly

It’s all spelled out in 1st Enoch and Jubilees.

Pretty sure the Ancient Babylonians had a 12 month lunar system based on the 12 zodiacs. They knew about the 13th zodiac, but for whatever reason chose to ignore it and focus instead on the other 12.

That was like, 2500 years ago.

The Babylonians passed the zodiacs to the Greeks, who passed it to the Romans. Sort of.

The Babylonians had a 12 month Lunar Calendar System

The Greeks didn’t have a set system, and it differed by city state.

The Romans started with a 10 month system, and then eventually *added January and February* (Not July and August, that is a misconception)

Later, the Romans then renamed two of the months.

Quintilis (quin being 5) became July and Sextilis (Sex being 6) became August.

The numbers were already out of whack by this point, as Quintilis and Sextilis used to be the 5th and 6th months respectively. But after January and February were added, they all got pushed back two months, then these two were renamed because emperors were emperoring I guess.

The original 10 month Roman calendar was a mess because it only accounted for about 304 days, leaving ~60 days of winter unaccounted for. During those months people would literally just not have an idea what day/month it was. It was like a dark period in the Calendar each year from December til March when the Equinox would hit and the Calendar would start again.

tl;dr: The 12 zodiacs have always been 12 and were birthed by the Babylonians, they knew about, but didn’t recognise the 13th as a proper zodiac. The calendar system was always 12 with the Babylonians, originally 10 months with the Romans, and later expanded to 12 months due to better seasonal management.

Feel free to fact check me on any of this. I could have it wrong. But that is a very simplified view of what went down over thousands of years.

Anything multiplied by a even number is an even number. 365 is *not* an even number. Therefore, this is untrue.

    19. SirVallanstein on

We have 13 zodiac signs the forgotten one is Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer.

    20. Hollywood_stylez on

And there would be One extra day or unless it’s changed to 364 days in a year

    21. restore_paint on

I just think it doesn’t really matter. 12 months or 13 months its all the same 364 days. We as humans invented months and dates so its arbitrary anyway imo.. another gripping „conspiracy“ from this sub…
