  1. From the article:

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) on Wednesday announced he will not seek reelection, ending his congressional career after more than a decade and adding to the ranks of Republicans declining to run for another term.

“I first ran for election to Congress in 2014 and, as I stated then, representing the people in Congress is a service, not a career; and although I continue to have strong support from the people of the Eleventh Congressional District, I believe it is time to contribute to my community, state, and nation in other ways,” Loudermilk said in a statement. “Therefore, I have decided not to seek re-election at the end of my current term in Congress.”

Loudermilk is the 29th Republican member of the House to say will not seek reelection in 2026 — either due to retirement, or seeking higher office — as Republicans brace for a tough midterm election. Loudermilk’s northern Georgia district is reliably Republican.

  2. Rats scurrying off the sinking ship? Or people with a shred of conscience who don’t want to be associated with the new dictatorship?

„*Loudermilk is the chair of Republicans’ Select Subcommittee to Investigate the Remaining Questions Surrounding January 6, which he pushed with an assist from President Trump“*

Sounds like we’re losing a real winner here. *rolls eyes*

29 reps gone and zero of them said „trump made me do it“. interesting pattern.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see even more retirements before the election.

They don’t want a loss on their record, so they’re all going to resign rather than have their asses handed to them.

  7. They’re learning, behind closed doors, that the actual, serious, already-in-action plan is to rig the midterms.

It’s not that they object, they just don’t want to end up tarred and feathered when the 75,000,000 people they’re actively planning to disenfranchise come for them with their pitchforks.

So they’re taking the easy way out to watch safely from their mansions.

  8. This is my rep, and I’ve been calling him to get off his ass to do something. I reminded him that even though his district is +15 red, that’s not necessarily a safe bet anymore. Wonder if that helped shake him.

Hope he remembers to pickup his pardon from Trump on his way out. Cause the Democrats have some questions for him.

  10. Misleading and not an unusual number leaving their positions. A good number of them are running for senate or other political offices. These guys come from heavy red areas and will be replaced with another traitor most likely.

This is not a sign of pending defeat. Keep pushing.

“Georgia’s 11th congressional district is located northwest of Atlanta and is Republican-favoring.The 2025 Cook Partisan Voting Index rates the district as favoring Republicans by 12 points. The Almanac has stated that a Democrat with a strong base in populous Cobb County could result in a competitive race.”

„The Trump effect“ How many Republicans jumped ship during Trump’s last term? The number will be far higher this time.

For all the celebrating „rats leaving the sinking ship“ we have to remember that this administration has shown ZERO signs of sinking. This is an unflushable turd. They own every mechanism of government.

  14. I love the cope in this thread. Unfortunately, these republicans are leaving because they’ve gotten what they needed to out of the government and now they are looking for cushy private jobs outside of the public eye where they can continue to enrich themselves or cash in on whatever agreement they sold their integrity for while serving. This isn’t admirable, this isn’t about covering their asses, this isn’t about getting out early, and its not because they don’t want to be a part of the admin anymore, they are simply being tactical.

What the hell kind of last name is Loudermilk!? I think he should’ve lost his election on the basis of that alone!

I know better than to hope he isn’t replaced by a maga republican. I’ve become a pessimist.

Is this them attempting to out in Trump loyalists and forcing out old republicans or old republicans scurrying off of the sinking ship?
