The federal NDP’s main issue will be getting themselves into the nation’s mind as a serious party again. Not sure how much he needs to worry at this point.

Holy everyone is taking a steaming coil on Lewis. I don’t know why Nenshi doesn’t explicitly endorse McPherson or Ashton. Maybe they don’t want his endorsement either.

I absolutely expect the Federal NDP to select the worst leader possible, because their party is comprised mainly of ideologues, who I then expect to undermine the provincial NDP governments, all of whom are more popular than the federal party.

If they truly believe, with the Liberals shifting right, that the best play for them is to stay where they are on the borderline far-left, then they truly are the worst-run “major” political party in Canadian history.

The Alberta NDP really needs to rebrand. They are basically a union of left of centre voters. Only a subset of their voting base are loyal NDPers. Most are voting for them as the only alternative to the UCP. The UCP benefits by comparing the federal NDP to the provincial NDP.

    5. Why would the NDP elect an orange liberal as leader? Especially when the critique last time was Singh was too similar to Trudeau?

The NDP is supposed to be an alternative to both Conservatives and Liberals. It doesn’t make any sense for the party to pick someone who’s just ‚a liberal in a hurry.‘

The federal NDP during Nenshi’s tenure has never been weaker. Never has he had more of an opportunity to pretend the federal party doesn’t exist

And during this time he’s seen the party lose ground, at least according to some polls. Down 13% to the UCP in the newest Leger poll.

If the thesis is true: the big bad federal NDP is holding the ANDP back, then he should be SOARING right now. But he isn’t. How can he blame the feds for that?

Good luck Nenshi. Every single Canada loving lefty is hoping you defeat Smith and her use of brinkmanship to stay in power. Smith is driving Alberta to a cliff with right-wing separatism and flirting with constitutional crisises.

Realistically, Nenshi and the majority of the current NDP and some of the UCP need to splinter off and occupy the center. There is even a reasonable option already in place called the Alberta Party. The more progressive left such as Hoffman and maybe Irwin can stick with the traditional NDP. The far right such as Smith and Loewen can go back to being the Wildrose Party. Maybe the Alberta Party wins a majority most of the time or at the very least is the minority leader and can work in collaboration with the NDP and Wildrose to get shit done.
