    1. **Half of all men over 60 have prostate cancer – an AI diagnostic tool could identify which need followup**

Increasing use of blood tests to detect prostate cancer is leading to overworked doctors. NTNU has now created an AI diagnostic tool that can help lighten the burden.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men in Western countries.

**Examinations have detected prostate cancer in 10 per cent of 50-year-olds, 50 per cent of 60-year-olds and approximately 70 per cent of men over the age of 80.**

This shows that the disease is naturally linked to ageing.

For those interested, here’s the link to the peer reviewed journal article:

    2. ‘This shows that the disease is naturally linked to ageing. “Prostate cancer is something most men die with, not from,” added Berger.’

So when you hear anything about massive increases in prostate cancer, remember these numbers before getting too worried.

The important bit is whether there are rises in  progression or earlier age of onset.

My father’s oncologist said that for anyone with a prostate, prostate cancer WILL kill you unless something else kills you first.

    4. Okay but what if I want to live to 115? Do I just have cancer for 55 years?

    5. Anyone have the source for half of all men over 60 having prostate cancer? I tried doing some napkin math combining other studies to replicate that number, but the results are somewhat unclear. The article doesn’t cite anything for that claim.

    6. That’s a HUGE jump there! 10% of 50 year old’s, to 50% of 60 year olds!

40% of all men get prostate cancer in their 50’s. That’s HUGE!

Completely anecdotal, but I’ve had two different urologist say that every man will develop prostate cancer if they live long enough. It probably won’t be what kills you though.
