Diese Karte (basierend auf der Volkszählung von 1897) färbt jeden Uyezd (Bezirk) nach seiner größten Pluralitätsreligiösen Gruppe. „Dominant“ bedeutet hier nicht eine absolute Mehrheit (>50 %), sondern lediglich die größte Gruppe in diesem Bezirk.
Beispiel: Im Bezirk Werchneudinsk (heute in der Nähe von Ulan-Ude in Burjatien) sind 47,9 % orthodoxe Christen, 28,7 % Buddhisten und 21,4 % Altgläubige – der Bezirk wird also auch ohne 50 %-Mehrheit als orthodox ausgewiesen.

That colour choice makes my eyes bleed.
Franz Josef land in the artic wasn’t annexed until 1926 by the USSR. The Russian empire didn’t claim those islands in 1897. They did send a couple expeditions in the early 1900’s though. Besides no one lived there.
Wasn’t Kars majority Armenian?
Old believers are orthodox. Outside of not wanting anything to do with other religions, they are exactly Eastern Orthodox

This is surely wrong. Even not counting roman catholics in that region, greek catholics were (and still are) a majority in most of galicia
