whether we go with F-35s, Gripens, both, or neither, if we are in an unironic shooting war vs Burgerland the air war begins and ends in 24 hours in a decisive Burgerland victory.
Gripens are also reliant on US parts, namely the GE F-414 engine. And do you want RCAF pilots to get plucked out of the sky from BVR in a non-low-observable plane? I mean they probably won’t, those planes will most likely be toast on the ground.
But if there is an unironic shooting war that means we have already lost the political war, and we’re quite far from that.
The best plane for Canada’s defence is the one we can actually fly. Changing our minds every 10 years is how we end up where we are.
