  1. “What the tribe says.

The Tongva tribe, the Indigenous inhabitants of the Los Angeles Basin known as the “First Angelenos,” had a message of their own for Eilish — whose multimillion-dollar mansion sits on their “ancestral land.”

The tribe revealed that the “Birds of a Feather” singer should “explicitly” reference them when speaking about “stolen land.”

“Eilish has not contacted our tribe directly regarding her property. We do value the instance when public figures provide visibility to the true history of this country,” a Tongva spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

“It is our hope that in future discussions, the tribe can explicitly be referenced to ensure the public understands that the greater Los Angeles Basin remains Gabrieleno Tongva territory,” the spokesperson added.

Yes, keep that infighting. That’s exactly what they want. We are all chewing each other’s heads off that we can’t see what they are doing to us until it’s too late.

Hmm, they don’t have a problem with it they just want the recognition that it’s their stolen land. Apparently the Tongva owned the greater Las Angeles Basin.

This reads a lot more like a marginalized group using current events to draw attention to their cause than them trying to directly criticize her, but I’m sure people who disagree with her will use it to make a bad-faith argument against her core message.

These discussions are a race to the bottom, every time. Nothing constructive comes of this.

Clickbait, but her statement was still extremely reductive and dumb. Nothing says luxury beliefs like thinking there’s no danger to open borders or unregulated immigratrion. There’s a reason why anti-immigration parties are surging globally.

Maybe celebrities speaking from their bubble of wealth and privilege should sit this one out. Just say „fuck ICE“, we can all agree on that.

These click bait titles.. they said they were appreciative of her speech and would like further recognition is all.

It’s the whole “if you’re going to stand up to evil – you have to stand up to all the evils of the world or you’re a hypocrite and deserve to be destroyed even more than the evil people” mentality.

  9. As a direct descendant of Swiss folks I’d sure like to stake a claim to summa dat native land o‘ mine.

I get how people feel about this. I think she walked into this because she has legitimately never even thought about it.

    My question is:

Why is there security at the Grammys? They don’t just let anybody in. There’s a process to attend.

These people have concerts. You need to pay to get in, there’s a process in place to attend THEIR events.

These 2 things being true, why would the country be a free for all? The Ice stuff has gone too far, most people agree. I just think it’s rich that these people at this event are advocating for a system that’s the opposite of their very businesses model and the party they’re attending.

They call ticket sales “gate” you can’t have working gate without a fence. Presumably she believes the arena she’s playing in is on stolen land? Why not cut the local Tribe off a piece?

These people earn money using fences and walls. They have every right to say what they think but their beliefs don’t exist in a vacuum.

An interesting use of words that suggests they own the land without explicitly saying it.

In reality the Tongva do not hold legal title to the Los Angeles Basin. There is no treaty ratified by the U.S. Senate that recognizes Tongva land ownership in Southern California.

Most Tongva groups today lack federal recognition, which severely limits land claims, sovereignty, and access to trust land.

  12. Well y’all can vacate your homes then and give them back to the indigenous

    This is amazing.

So…is it OK to own a multimillion dollar mansion on stolen land?

I definitely think it’s fair indigenous tribes get a say, just like Billie does. That being said, I agree this publication is divisive.

Which indigenous tribe did that indigenous tribe steal the land from?

It’s all the same. Canadian media on all sides has turned into a rage bait factory, largely written by AI. I worked with The Star on the software side 5 years ago when it was just beginning. Their mandate was to automate headlines and articles for maximum viewership.

Lol I love when these nepotism babies get put in their place. „Shut up and play/sing“ was said exactly with her in mind.
