It depends 🙂
How big is your apartment and what’s the PEB ?
The unit price there is the price of one unit of heat – are we on the same page here?
Never trusted these ‚Caloriemeters‘ when I bought my old ’new“ appartment the pipes were disconnected and I kept keep on receiving bills for used heating….
Sent all the units back asap and heat extra with electrical. After having installed new premium windows and some other energy efficient measures that is more then enough.
It’s a unit of gas so it’s linked to your contract. Who manages it for your building? As far as I know, Techem doesn’t manage energy contacts
I do find it hard to understand why some utility bills are so high. We spend about €1,000 annually on gas, less than €1,000 on electricity, and much less than €1,000 on water. We live with four people (including two young adult children) in a three-story, semi-detached house heated with natural gas and only moderately insulated. (Belgium/Gent)
Edit: For natural gas (for heating + warm water) (at the last bill in July 2025), I payed approximately €0.1/kWh (all-in).
Heating: 800 € / year for heating doesn’t sound too exaggerated. Without mentioning what the unit is, no one can tell if it’s a lot or not. Since it’s a calorimeter you have no real idea about your consumption, as you all share 1 meter. I suspect the main problem lies here.
Water: 700 hl (70m³) would be normal for 2-3 people, very high if it’s just you.
Our total cost for heating with gas + water = 630 €. An additional 580 for electricity. This is for 2 people in a 1 bedroom place.
There’s no fixed price for a heating unit. They take the total gas bill (4.030) and divide it by the total number of units (5.857) giving €0,688. This number can be different every year, but not enormously different.
Now the strange thing is that in your case the previous year had a unit cost of only €0,10.
One possible explanation is that the gas bill arrived to late in 2024, resulting in a nearly zero cost per unit. And now they calculate the unit cost by adding the gasbills of 2024 and 2025 together.
The gas bills do need to be paid, so this is not abnormal. Part of the bill you pay now is the bill of the previous year that was obviously too low.
