Ich arbeite im Rahmen der Remote-Arbeitsrichtlinie. Es passiert etwas Seltsames.
Jedes Gespräch über Remote-Arbeit in Irland wird zum RTO-Untergangsscrollen. Wer ruft die Leute zurück? Wie schrecklich es ist. Wie es nichts gibt, was irgendjemand tun kann.
Mittlerweile werden europaweit über 100.000 Remote-Jobs jeden Monat ausgeschrieben. Automattic (WordPress) erwirtschaftet fast eine Milliarde Umsatz, völlig remote. GitLab, Buffer, Doist, Zapier. Das sind keine Randspieler.
Wir haben kein nationales Ziel, irgendeinen dieser Arbeitsplätze in Irland zu gewinnen. Null.
Schlimmer noch: Aufgrund der Funktionsweise der EU-Anreize drängen wir tatsächlich Remote-First-Arbeitgeber in Büros. Wenn sie staatliche Unterstützung wollen, brauchen sie eine physische Niederlassung. Ein vollständig abgelegenes Unternehmen, das in Irland einstellen möchte, bekommt weniger Unterstützung als einer, der ein Büro baut.
Hier ist, was verrückt ist. Jemand im letzten Thread sagte "Unternehmen können immer noch den Boden unter den Füßen ausziehen und RTO erzwingen." Sicher. Jedes Unternehmen kann alles tun. Aber diese Unternehmen sind seit Jahren abgelegen oder wurden so aufgebaut. Ihr gesamtes Modell ist verteilt. Es besteht nicht das gleiche Risiko wie bei einem Unternehmen, bei dem zunächst das Büro im Mittelpunkt steht, das auf Hybrid umsteigt und dann seine Meinung ändert.
Und die Reaktion auf dieses Risiko lautet: Nichts tun? Konzentrieren Sie sich weiterhin auf die Unternehmen, die Mitarbeiter zurückdrängen, während Sie diejenigen ignorieren, die aktiv Remote-Mitarbeiter einstellen?
Wir haben den Nationalen Breitbandplan. Über 400 verbundene Hubs. Englischsprachige Belegschaft. EU-Zeitzone. Wir haben alles außer der Strategie, diese Jobs zu gewinnen.
Ich verstehe den Pessimismus wirklich nicht. Ist es einfach einfacher, sich zu beschweren als aufzubauen? Oder fehlt mir etwas?

It’s Ireland, so we have to wait 10 years to cop on to the trend
This government won’t be leading the way on any serious policy changes like you suggesting. They have spent years talking about minor updates to the planning laws.
Once some other country tries it and they are sure it won’t rock the mnc boat then maybe.
This govt sucks in every possible way. I actually think the govts from the 1980s were much more forward looking and would consider your policy proposal with interest if transported to 2020s
Unpopular opinion: Beyond a certain size, remote work slows down company output. There is some data to support this.
The companies you mentioned started as remote-first and built their entire cultures around it. They have policies and processes specifically designed for a distributed workforce. It is not nearly as easy for a large, established company to transition if they were not remote-enabled from the start.
The reason we push companies to have offices here and staff here is so they actually invest in Ireland and not use have a PO Box to get the corporate tax rate
That’s what used to happen years ago but now the government have pushed for them to have actual staff in Ireland etc
If they have a work force of fully remote how do you tell them the staff have to be based in Ireland and spend in Ireland etc

Is that really „that much“ 100000 jobs in Europe, where the global population is 745 million?

Delighted to have my remote job. Could probably commute to Dublin but it looks like hell
Pessimism is our national sport.
The only ones with any agenda to having employees return to the office are commercial landlords and banks.
I suspect a number of articles pushing RTO are stealthily driven by these bodies.
Both need rents and property values to remain high (banks for liquidity on their books)
Fully remote work hinders productivity and generally sucks. You’re not building any real connection with your colleagues. Office banter and spontaneity go out the window. I think hybrid works better.
Have you been tracking these jobs for long? Because I have, and the same jobs from companies you mentioned, like WordPress, have been listed and repaired for quarters now. So either noone across all of Europe and not just Ireland, can fill those roles, or like a lot of these roles, they’re not realnroels at all.
Not saying they are all like that, but a lot , an awful lot of those jobs have been reposted over and over for the last year
I’ve gone for some of these remote jobs. They don’t want to pay the Dublin salaries… and why should they when they can hire someone based elsewhere in the EU.
Honestly I feel we are too expensive to be a viable option for a lot of remote roles if they are looking at other locations in europe
